Free Speech Dies at Berkeley

RIP "Free Speech".

"The Free Speech Movement (FSM) was a student protest which took place during the 1964–65 academic year on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley . . .'

Things change.

"A protest at UC Berkeley over a scheduled appearance by right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos turned fiery and violent Wednesday night, prompting police to cancel the event and hustle the Breitbart News editor off campus.
But even after the event’s cancellation, hundreds of protesters spilled off campus into the city streets, where the violence continued as they confronted drivers, engaged in fights, smashed storefront windows and set fires.
Protesters decried President Trump’s policies as much as they did the visit by Yiannopoulos, a gay conservative who has been making the rounds at college campuses across the country with his 'Dangerous Faggot' talks, specializing in remarks meant to insult, offend and disgust liberals who disagree with his ideas."

There's lots of video of the riot in the link too. And in this one: sputniknews
And sputniknews gets the spelling of "Kaliforniya" right too.

Gay immigrant? Well these lefties must be homophobic xenophobes!!! The radio news this A.M. said there were "protesters" and a large "bonfire". Nothing about rioting or window smashing. WTF! "rioting" must be like "islamic extremists", the commie press can't bring themselves to say it.
More (in)tolerance by liberals. They call President Trump a dictatator but it is the liberals who try to suppress anybody who dusagrees with them. MSNBC had nothing to say about the riot.
When the hell do they put a stop to these protests. When the hell do the tell the ACLU to go to hell, when the hell do we tell these little groups to go to hell. We have a serious problems in this country and it causing problems to get out of hand. There is no way what happened in Berkeley should happen anywhere in this country. It time that right is right and wrong is wrong and breaking windows---setting fires---causing destruction---time for law and order to take charge.

These people, with no respect for the free speech of others, and with no respect for the property of others. Who do you think that they voted for? I'm guessing Clinton. Those old enough voted for Obama.

The is just an educated guess.
Get this. If the campus police feel there is going to be a violent protest when there is a controversial speaker, they will charge the speaker (not the protesters) ahead of time for police services. If they refuse to pay, then they are not allowed to speak. For this particular gentleman, the bill was around $6,500 or so. An anonymous donor came forward and put up the money for him. The liberals look really, really bad on this. Why isn't there any liberal leadership stepping up and condemning such behavior?

I'm not part of the liberal leadership but I have no problem condemning the protests. People need to listen more to the other side - even if the other side has stupid ideas. I'm concerned about a liberal version of the Tea-Party that seems to be arising and demanding unconditional obstruction to everything.

Obstruction should be based on the merit of each individual issue - not spite for the people who put it on the table. People who act on the latter hurt their own credibility.

You sir, are not a leftist. A liberal, yes.

I welcomed the tea party idea when it started, the republican party needed some change. But gees, that went sour fast. I can only imagine that is what is happening with the ultra progressive, far left zealots that seem to be taking over the democrat party.

The Anti-Free Speech faction won.
The University of California at Berkeley "cancel[ed] the event about two hours before the Breitbart editor's speech. UC Berkeley said it removed him from campus "amid the violence and destruction of property and out of concern for public safety."
DonDiego hopes the $6500 was refunded to the anonymous donor.

The Berkeley protestors may just be searching for a new civil rights hero to emulate.

I think they can do better.
