I don't disagree with you as much as you think I do. The "first day of Black History Month" isn't exactly a high holiday, is it? So even though the monkey imagery has been used as a weapon against African Americans for hundreds of years, yes, I think this is a case of over-sensitivity.
Of course this is the country that refers to genocidal traitors and American army deserters as glorious "rebels" and "Confederates," so there's plenty of political correctness to go around, isn't there?
