Fremont Shopping District, 1959

This image recently showed up on a Facebook page, simply labeled "Las Vegas. 1959." This strikes me as too much uninterrupted retail for Vegas, but I've been wrong before. With a modicum of research, I found the same photo on a couple of websites where it is labeled "Fremont Shopping District, 1959."

(John Charles Fremont got around. There are many Fremont Districts, shopping and otherwise.)

I've looked at hundreds of pictures of downtown Las Vegas and environs, from 1905 through today .. and I've never seen anything that looks like this.

Are there holes in my education? Any clues or input would be appreciated.
Anything is possible... but it almost looks like a movie set to me.
How many blocks from the casinos would the "shopping district" be? Fremont St goes out quite a ways.
It seems most pictures of the downtown focus on the gaming blocks of the street and less so on the shopping blocks.
Someone on FB claims that none of the cars are newer than 1953, so it's probably not 1959. And I just can't buy it as Las Vegas.

Thanks for sharing the retro.

My forensic analysis shows those are Black and Gold Califiornia license plates of the 50s...not the Blue and Silver Nevada plates we would expect in 'The Fremont Shopping District'.

More compelling evidence. (I think the real "Fremont Shopping District" was a gift shop at The Golden Nugget.)

Ahh, a forensic analysis we can believe in
