FTC asking government to crackdown on hotel resort fees.

FTC asking government to crack down on hotel resort fees
I would prefer that hotels roll all costs into the "room cost". I more strongly prefer that the government stay the fuck out of the way.

Since hotels/resort won't stop charging resort fees on their own you will need the government to step in and arrange it through legislation. You might not like government intervention but I prefer it when it benefits consumers. Corporate America doesn't give a shit about the individual customer, they care about profit. With these resort fees, they limit the commision they pay 3rd party sellers and that's the main goal. Everything else they tell the customer about resort fees is just plain BS. A government sometimes just has to end shady business because if you rely on the company that's conducting shady business to clean up their own act.......you're counting on miracles.
Boilerman- apparently the hotels that charge these "ripoff" resort fees are unwilling to do what you suggest - therefore the government is being brought into the equation with hopes that THEY can get these misleading bastards to do the right thing. I doubt it will happen because these" ripoff" resort fee artists are too well entrenched into the graft that rules our elected officials. After all, it is and always will be about the money and the thieves that run our once great nation.

I can add.
Life is hard. It's harder when you can't add.
This has nothing to do with being able to add. This has everything to do with doing business with integrity.

How would you feel about having a quality 3 course dinner at a restaurant for $44,99 and finding our there's an addition fee of $45 for the use of a fork and knife when you´re presented with the bill? As soon as you complain to the manager his response is: "but we informed you about this fee.......see, it's printed on our menu..........oh wait, here's a magnifying glass so you can read it".

Great you can add those amounts, good for you! But this analogy is exactly what happens with resort fees. If you don't see anything wrong with that, I'm glad I never have to do business with you. And yes, several large corporations lack this basic integrity. I have no problem with a government making sure they learn to conduct business with integrity fast!
Jesus Lurker, how out of touch one must be to qualify as the only American that is surprised by Vegas resort fees? It's not a surprise to anyone, except apparently Lurker.

I understand the fees, and I can add. I guess this makes me special.

Why is it up us to do the adding???? They handle billions of dollars every day. You think they do do this themselves and not depend on us to to it for them. They do this for two reasons and two reasons only. To post a lower price on search engines so they can get on Page 1 on the site and post a lower price so the websites get less of a cut on the sale of the room. Jessie James would be proud.
I agree 100% with Lurker. Having to "add" should NOT be necessary to check hotel rates IF those underhanded bastards quoted the ENTIRE cost of a room instead of hiding the "ripoff, useless resort fees when they quote a room price.
