FTC asking government to crackdown on hotel resort fees.

It is a deceptive business practice. Just like airlines are required to show the bottom line price, hotels should too.

Well, you could be one of the 600,000+ first time visitors that Las Vegas gets every year.

This has been another episode of simple answers to stupid questions.
Once again, forkush gives a stupid answer to a simple question....
I guess there's people out there that can't read when they book online. I guess there are other people who can't listen when they order on the phone. Those people are surprised by the fees, because they can't read and listen. Caveat emptor.

This reminds of all of the stoners who vote for the politician who supports medical marijuana. The stoners talk about medical benefits, but they really just want to get stoned. You're argument isn't strong if you fabricate stuff.

I agree 100% with Lurker. Having to "add" should NOT be necessary to check hotel rates IF those underhanded bastards quoted the ENTIRE cost of a room instead of hiding the "ripoff, useless resort fees when they quote a room price.

At least most of the airline fees are optional - so theoretically you could pay the super low price if you don't mind sitting in the middle seat, don't bring a carry on bag, etc.

There is no way to "opt out" of the resort fee. Perhaps Hotels could try the airline model.

That would be the next step if mandatory resort fees where overturned by law. Hotels would sell a very basic room with no amenities. If you want cable tv channels, wifi, swimming pool access, and more than one pillow then you have to pay the resort fee.

How much you wanna bet you'll see a hotel chain like this pop up in the next couple years?

Prior to 2012, airlines were not including the often substantial Taxes and Fees in their advertised prices...Those were not optional. Now they are required. by law to show the basic price including taxes and fees. I liken those non-optional taxes and fees to the hotel resort fee.
Anyone who believes that a law will make the final bill smaller is foolish. And, let's be honest, that's really what some are looking for................the government telling the big mean Vegas casinos that they must charge less for their rooms.

Bernie would support this.

Bernie and his supporters want someone else to pay for their room!
