Just back from a night at Rincon.
funny things happen, and I guess the more you play, the more "funny things" you see.
tonight, for a period of time I sat between two extreme players. the lady on my left was very angry that she couldnt hit a winning hand and was pounding away at the keys and even hit her screen a few times. slapinfunk was watching her ( this was on the DDB progressive ) and commented to me later that she was not playing correctly holding unsuited AJ AK etc. On my right is a very friendly and familiar, frequent player who has a ritual of waving his hand over the screen before playing each hand, then cashing out each win to collect a wad of tickets, and then reinserting the tickets after his initial deposit in the machine is exhausted.
Later I went to the $1 progressive (DDB) and walked up to a machine, stuck in a hundred, and on the very first push of the button was dealt quad 9s. the two ladies to the right of my gasped and started cursing... it seems that just a minute earlier one of the ladies got up from that machine. so while I played they kept muttering that I had ruined the karma of the evening and they decided to leave before I took all their money. gee whiz.
So I went back to the $5 progressive and this time another player sat next to me and at the same instant we were both dealt full houses with three aces. I had three aces with jacks, he had three aces with 9s. We noticed each other's screens since we were sitting next to each other and we started to talk strategy.
I told him I was going to break up my full house and just hold the aces. I did this also on Friday night and hit a fourth ace, but no kicker. still it got me 4K. He said he was going to hold the full house and didnt want to give up $225. "225 in the hand is worth more than four thousand in the bush," he said to me. So he held his full house and went on to his next hand. I broke up my full house and did not improve.
And damn a few minutes later we both hit quads. Play enough and you see these coincidences, I guess.
Rincon has a new policy -- when you get a handpay you cant simply give them a previous "pink slip" (W2G form) to copy the info. Now they want to see your driver license just as if its your first win of the session. Well I have no problem doing that. I gladly reach into my wallet and pull out my license... no big deal. Did it three times tonight... 21 times on Friday night when I had a monster run of good luck. But tonight, when I handed over my license for the third time, the floor supervisor complimented me for not giving them grief about it. "Why would I give you grief over handing you my license?" It seems that a lot of other players have been complaining and that Rincon should check its files instead of bothering the players. Well a couple of minutes later a slot player behind me hit a big one (it was either 15k or 30k) and sure enough she made a stink about handing over her license again. I dont get it.
Slapinfunk and I also noticed an expanded non smoking section at Rincon and we checked out the small selection of VP in the non smoking section. they are slant tops but the DDB has an 8/5 paytable. I guess if you dont want to inhald smoke you have to play a bad pay table. The high limit section has 9/5 DDB and the new video poker room has 9/6 DDB but without progressive at the $5 level.
we actually took time to have dinner tonight in the Cafe. I finally ordered the sea bake which is this huge bowl of lobster, craps, clams, oysters, and other stuff that is enough for 4 people to share. unfortunately, its all in some red sauce and that made using the nut crackers to open the crab legs a very messy affair, so I didnt touch them. the lobster tail came out easily. not bad for $29.
for dessert, slapinfunk ordered a slice of cheesecake. the slice was about one third of a full sized cheese cake.
there is a drawing for a Mini and as a consolation prize you get a free play voucher ranging from $10 to $100. I got $10, slapinfunk got $20. I asked about the cash value of the car in case you wanted cash was about $15K. Is that right? must be a stripped down model.
also ordered some more Shell gas cards ($200) at total rewards, to use up some of my comps. We left about 2-am and the ride was uneventful, except for one very slow and possibly drunk driver ahead of us who turned off the mountainous road near Pala to take the other mountainous road towards Pechanga.
