Gambling With An Edge-The Riddle Of The Cocktail Straw

In Thursday's episode they discussed that casinos have a "code" so that the eye
in the sky can determine if a drink is alcoholic or not.
The code is based on the straw in the drink.
Anybody know the "code".
I've never noticed it maybe because I've never ordered a non-alcoholic
drink at a casino.
DonDiego doesn't know the entire code.
But often when he orders a ginger-ale straight, it comes with a straw and a cherry. Maybe that means something.

DonDiego rarely drinks while at the blackjack table, . . . until he is nearly ready to depart. He remembers several decades ago playing an extended session at a double-deck game in Circus-Circus, . . . back in the days when lots of places had good-to-excellent low-limit games. DonDiego had recently read about some successful gambler who habitually drank grapefruit juice while gambling, so he had adopted this custom. They always came with a straw too; but DonDiego digresses.
The reason the session was extended was that DonDiego was winning consistently, exactly as he should have been, . . . if the reader knows what he means. So anyway, he orders what was to be his last grapefruit juice, and the cocktail waitress sorta delivers it with the "Playboy Dip" and scampers off without waiting for a tip.
DonDiego plays a few hands before sipping the beverage. It was probably over ½ vodka ! DonDiego laughed, saluted the eye-in-the-sky with his drink, and cashed out. He had worn out his welcome.

Ahh, . . . memories.
Back in the "good old days" at the Flamingo if a women sat at the bar with a glass of water with no ice and a straw she was a hooker. The bartenders use to call it a hooker cocktail.
I have noticed that in some casinos hot chocolate comes with one thick straw and a Kahlua and Coffee comes with two thin ones. That may not apply to all casinos though.

Cyndee

Sometimes the straws are different so the server can recognize which drink is which when she delivers them. For example, my husband used to get a jack & coke with a single stirrer, while my diet coke had 2 stirrers in it. That way, she could tell them apart.
Two straws for non-alcoholic drinks is pretty common. It's like the black stripe for regular coffee and orange/brown stripe for decaf.

Why would the eye in sky want to know if there was alcohol in a drink?

Simple. If someone is faking that they have alcohol, then there is a chance they are a card counter. They even made mention of this in the movie "21".
I wonder what they think about those of us who take the straw out and just drink from the glass?
I've noticed the bars at various show venues use a different color straw. Sometimes my son's would be red and mine black or vice versa.
