Of course the color of straw might mean if you are drinking a foo-foo drink (or is it fufu?).

I think we've already had this discussion. I forget the proper spelling.

Just seems like an awful lot of secret codes for little gain. Next time I'm in the casino, I'm going to smuggle in my own cocktail straws and really mess with security.

I've only seen straws used to differentiate similar looking drinks.
DonDiego opines it is "froufrou".

And he thought it was a parasol which identified froufrou drinks to Security.

And the napkins too. I will need to pay attention next time to see if there are different colored napkins. I would think the napkins are much easier to spot than the straws.
Different colored straws for different alcohol so the server can tell them apart.
As was pointed out in the article, the straw or napkin is a further indicator of separating true gamblers and advantage players. Advantage players would theoretically want to look like they were drinking, but are not.

I knew someone who used to be on Uston's teams. He advocated that if you can hold your alcohol and can still keep an accurate count, then you should do so. This guy always liked to go to bed early in LV and get up around 4am. He would not shave and would try to look like he was up all night. At that time in the morning he can play many more hands, and the dealers are kind of on auto pilot where they are thinking about going home.
