It has been floating around between $1.62 and $1.76 per gallon in my Colorado neighborhood for more than a month. California has higher gasoline taxes than most states, and the state also requires seasonal blends that add to the cost of refining gas for sale there. It shouldn't be very long before California politicians add another dollar (or more) per gallon in taxes because they think gas is too cheap.

2.05-2.10 here in Naples FL. I would love to see cheaper gas but I have to agree with DD be careful what you wish for.

Amen to this, Dad. We also need to back to 5 cent bags of potatoes, 10 cent loaves of bread and having Herbert Hoover back in the White House.
The "Rack" wholesale cost is for regular unleaded is running $1.03/gallon. This is the price, or very near the price, that your local gas station pays for gas. Add to that federal taxes, state taxes, and local taxes (generally these taxes range from 35 cents to 65 cents per gallon). Don't forget that your local gas station must pay a trucking company to pick up 7000 gallons of juice and drive it to the station. 10 cents per gallon is a typical cost for trucking. Don't forget that all of this stuff must be added before they station owner marks up the gasoline so he can make a living.

I was about to state that these cheap gas prices in Houghton won't last, but I just checked GasBuddy, and the cheapest gasoline available in Houghton, MI is $1.48/gallon for regular. Lurker will be protesting a 90 cent per gallon price increase, I'm certain, and at this price station owners are still losing money plenty of money.

Ellen- don't forget the 25 cent movie admission and 5 cent popcorn - and no cellphones....
I'm curious if Milled disagrees with any of the expenses that I list?

Shopping for that Prius this weekend.
Florida has no oil refineries and a very limited pipeline system. I'm not sure if that has to do with the high water table, and what.

Unfortunately for you, in Naples there is substantially more transportation costs for gasoline than there is in Indiana and most other parts of the country.

How very un-Republican of you. Their whole shtick is let's make money money money, as much as we can. Let's pay as little taxes as possible and screw the little man. Very much, the "American way"......unless when it's Arabs making the big bucks. Then, it's a disgrace.

Just a minor note suggesting what may be coming down the pike for the over-extended producers of low-grade crude oil, . . . like all the shale oil companies, and most especially those who produce a particular high-sulfur oil called North Dakota Sour.

"Oil is so plentiful and cheap in the U.S. that at least one buyer says it would need to be paid to take a certain type of low-quality crude.
Flint Hills Resources LLC, the refining arm of billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch’s industrial empire, said it would pay -$0.50 (that is minus-50-cents - DD) a barrel Friday for North Dakota Sour, a high-sulfur grade of crude, according to a list price posted on its website. That’s down from $13.50 a barrel a year ago and $47.60 in January 2014."

And whichever bank loaned these producers money, . . . had better increase their loan reserves pronto !
