Getting a new Fridge/Freezer...ideas?

I am planning on replacing my Artica GE side by side fridge freezer soon.......Am considering french door and lower freezer this time around......I am interested in LG or Samsung......next time around I will avoid GE.
Any suggestions appreciated.
I love my lower freezer with french doors. It is small because of my kitchen layout but perfect for me. I had side by side and hated them. No room in the freezer for anything of size. Mine is a Whirlpool, because that is the ONLY one that would fit .
It pays to do some homework on Consumer reports if you have access to it. French door fridges are notorious for maintenance issues (usually the icemaker) There were enough bad grades to scare me out of getting one alltogether. I got a nice stainless Kenmore fridge with a single door up top. Its not as convenient to have to dig ice out of the bottom drawer receptacle but the fridge itself has been problem free for three years now
Our Kenmore side by side has been good overall.
I concur that it means less freezer storage space, but enough for us two.

Hint about the ICEMAKER:
Ours seemed to have quit working.
Thought we'd have an expensive repair or replacement to pay for.

I thought I'd give it one good inspection it myself.

I found ONE small piece of ice was stopping the thing that dumps ice into the bucket.
With my hairdryer, I melted that little piece of ice.
Then I gave the rest of it a good going over with the hairdryer.

Voila, after some time (seemed like forever) the thing started up and has never quit.
Saved us the cost of a service call and who knows what other costs.

I had called a repair man (who had worked on the freezer one time before).
I called him back to cancel, told him what I had done to fix it.
He said he hadn't thought of it before, but likely the water filter from the refrigerator to the freezer (by way of some tubing) was stopped up.
Thus slowing down the ice making action, blocking things.
Something like that! Husband did put a new filter in.

He congratulated me for finding the problem. I congratulated me too!

Congratulations!
I don't know if this will apply to what you are interested in but thought it was worth posting anyway.
I bought a Kenmore side by side a year and a half ago. I bought it online and it wasn't until it arrived that I learned it had VERY limited shelf mobility. There are 3 shelves with 4 slots and that's it, and they are set at 7" apart. I didn't think it would be that big a deal when I got it, but it is a lot harder to place things given that restriction. Next time I'll make sure it has fully adjustable shelves. (the door is fine; lots of shelves at 3-4" intervals).

DonDiego suggests jazzlover exercise some vigilance, . . . and never purchase an appliance smarter than himself.

This advice applies especially to any location in one's home, . . . but especially a room in which bladed objects or fire/heat-producing devices are located, . . . or chainsaws.

We got the LG 3 months ago to replace our side by side...absolutely love it! Ice maker has worked great and the lower freezer holds more than the side by side did. The extra wide shelf space on the top is great, especially for pot luck parties.
We have a Maytag French door with bottom freezer . After three years we have had no problems , except for the ice maker sometime jamming up . An easy fix . The ice and water dispensing is the best of all the other makes friends and relatives have . I change the water filter as prescribed ,and vacuum the coils and it keeps on chuggin' . Bob
Bought the LG LSXS 26326 S in Dec. Great buy! In door Ice maker a little slow. Capacity is great and access to the rear area is good. Good lighting. THOUGHT>>>measure VERY good. Life's Good.
