Gift for casino host

What is a customary gift for a casino host?
We are by no means high rollers, but we did get rated pretty well at Atlantis last summer, thus allowing us to go back in a few weeks, comped in the Royal Tower for 5 nights, and 2 at $99/night. We were set up with a casino host before our trip last summer, I am assuming, based on our first trip there 6 years before. Anyway, our host is not located in the Bahamas, and she will be there when we are there. We would like to do something nice for her and I am looking for suggestions. Gift? Money? What would be considered a customary gift? Thanks!

A gift card would be nice.

Personally I wouldn't do money or a gift card.

Candy always seems to be appreciated

Max Rubin discusses this topic in his very entertaining book 'Comp City.'

He suggests items such as golf balls for male hosts, and scarves for females. Also, items perhaps linked to your business or hometown. Or even a CD.

I like the candy idea.

Male hosts seem to like a sports bet, as well. I'll make an $11 bet on the Steelers and hand the ticket to the host (or floorperson) and wish them good luck!

We usually buy a nice silk tie for our male hosts (who have to wear a suit all the time) and gift cards, or candy for our female hosts.

Gift card, Tie or Scarf.

Or a scarf, gift card or tie.

(sorry, couldn't resist )
Gift baskets, candy, tie, etc. Some non-monetary.

For Christmas one year I gave my host cufflinks because I noticd he always wore shirts with french cuffs.

I have a question about giving a sports bet as a gift: can the host cash the ticket? Is it at the same casino where the host works? I never heard this idea before.

My host once told me he wanted to learn how to play craps, and asked me to go to another casino to show him how to play.
I've approached it both ways. Sometimes make the bet at the sports book where I'm staying, sometimes at another casino. Never had anybody complain either way! (I'm sure these guys - and ladies - have ways of getting things done!)

I always enjoyed playing at the Imperial Palace when I first started traveling to Vegas, and made friends with a great floorman named Frank. (Don't know if he's still at 'The Quad' or not!) I'd make an NFL parlay bet across the street at the Mirage, hand him the ticket, and I had a friend for the weekend!

All the other suggestions are very good, too. Ties, candy, gift cards, etc. It's the thought that counts, and you will be remembered. I've always believed that protocol will take you further than genius!

One year I took a large bottle of Pure Maple Syrup as I'm Canadian and also

put in a few recipes with it. A number of other times I have given a couple

of bottles of white wine as I know both hosts enjoy the wine. Always put

in a nice gift bag with fancy colourful wrapping and a personalized handwritten

card.
