Gold Coast Poker Room Closing

Doesn't make sense to me, and I hope this isn't the beginning of a trend in Las Vegas. I've been told that to distribute the money they've collected for bad beat jackpots, they are handing out raffle tickets to all players and people on waiting lists, and giving away $400 an hour.

Major bummer.
The move over to the corner of the casino kind of doomed the room. Before the move there was a lot more action with several 2-4,4-8 and nl tables going. I frequently played into the wee hours including some all night sessions there. It was a fun place. Since the move it seemed there were only 1 or 2 2-4 tables at any time.
Sad, very sad.

In 2009, I was definitely underwhelmed by the staff.

When I approached the podium wanting to play, and seen to be standing there waiting, I was "ignored" for 7 or more minutes while two employees (1 in a suit) continued their conversation.

When finally asked if they could help me after having to walk across the room, I answered something to the effect of "I just wanted to be kept waiting for a long time while your casual conversation continued and a potential customer was ignored, especially considering how busy the room appears to be. (2 tables going with open seats)

I went to the buffet instead to eat dinner.

Returned to the poker room again, was again kept waiting, when approached and asked if they could help me replied "This is the second time I came to play and was kept waiting unnecessarily. It seems obvious that my body filling a seat, and potential play is not wanted, and you are not eager for my business. I'll go play on the strip someplace that wants my business.

And I left. I never played the poker room there, nor tried, although I was in GC many times on coupon runs.

I was discouraged, not encouraged by my little interaction with staff. That reflects on management of the poker room, so I am not surprised they are closing.

:::shrug:::

When business is bad, try harder.

I just called, they are drawing 4 tickets an hour for $100 each from 10am- midnight.

According to the sign, you are only eligible if you have played there since Nov 1, 2010.

....and they hand out new tickets every hour.
Did they "suspend" the bad beat jackpot until they close the room, and using the drawings to give back the balance of it?

Great deal for locals, major benefit to play off hours for the drawings.

They used to have great noon poker tournaments every day there and they would get around 9 tables daily. It would be a shame if the place closed their poke room!
Just got back from there. Played about 2 hours of 2/4 LHE. The drawing drum looked to have about 800 tickets in it. One guy won 4 times today including twice in a row at 7:15 and 7:30. Another guy won 6 times today including his name being drawn at 8:30 and 8:45. Supposedly they have both been there since 10am this morning, I still find it odd that they both won that many times. According to the mgr he said they empty the drum each day. If they pull your ticket it goes back in the drum.

I was told by the guy sitting next to me, at most those guys could have about 12 tickets in the drum. Seemed a little weird to me.

I racked up my remaining chips after my KK lost to A 10, my flopped flush lost to runner runner full house and the cherry on top was when my KK again lost to A 10 on a flop of 10 10 4.

Good riddance GC poker room!
