Golden Gate Casino

I'm considering staying here with a bunch of buddies (not until Labor Day weekend), and am curious if anyone has stayed in one of their suites. I want to put two guys in each suite, and I see that they have a king bed and a queen pull out couch. Golden Gate gets poor room reviews due to their tiny size and noise problems, but I don't expect either of these issues with the suites.

If you've stayed here, please give me your thoughts.
I know you stayed at the Mirage last year. Are all of your friends familiar with downtown and how it is very different than the strip?
Yes. I've been alternating the group between the Golden Nugget and various strip locations the past dozen years or so. Two years ago we stayed in a suite at The D, which was okay. I certainly have always preferred the Golden Gate Casino vs The D Casino.

I would prefer to put the group at the Nugget again, but the Spa Suite that I usually host a first night party and then some football watching later in the trip is going to run $2300. Hell, we used to get the place for more like $1100 for the entire weekend.

Prices change, so I'll keep an eye on the Golden Nugget.

I've seen the Golden Gate suites. They're nothing special- which is why you can frequently get one for $75 + resort fee. I'd rather stay in a standard room in Golden Nugget's Rush Tower.

I've thought the same regarding the Rush rooms, but I need two beds or one bed and a pull out couch since I'm putting two guys per room. Best I can tell is that the Rush rooms have one king and one couch, but the couch doesn't pull out to make a bed.

We have stayed in the GG "suites" two of the last three trips.
I concur with them being on par with regular rooms in the GN Rush tower. The couch at the GG is larger than Rush Tower's. It is L shaped and would most likely sleep a person without the pull out. We did not use the pull out so I can't comment on that. They are quiet, and clean.
The bathroom is different....The bathroom sink is right there in the open and a closet like toilet and pretty big shower off of it. There is a curtain you can pull around the sink area to make it into a bath"room". The resort fee is absolutely ridiculous. They should at least come up with a different name for it, the GG is no resort. We have had the suites comped the last two times. Pretty generous considering we are red chip players.
I've stayed at the GG, but not in a suite. I actually liked the tiny room that existed when the place was built in 1906 and overlooked Fremont Street (I requested that side of the building) with windows that open. It was great for people watching under the canopy from my room at night. The casino itself is a fun place!
I stayed in one of their suites last September. Cowboykell pretty much nails it. The room is large with flat screen TV, room safe, plenty of drawers for your stuff and a cabinet to hang clothing. The bed was comfortable. It had a large window that faced south, overlooking their parking lot. Because the suites are in the rear of the building; noise from the FSE is minimal. You can't beat the convenience in getting from your room to the casino and onto the FSE. I've stayed in their regular rooms several times. Those trips were solo, so I don't mind the room and the bathroom being on the small side. More importantly, the rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. Also, I like gambling at the Gate; dealers and pit personnel have always treated me great.
We were comped a GG Suite about a year ago, and actually checked out before the end of our three night stay . . . we hated it. The suite is really not that large and there is no division between the bed, the couch and the so-called bathroom. So, it reminded us of just a big room that they called a suite. The bathroom was the deal breaker. Your bathroom sink is just the minibar sink with a minibar type faucet. The toilet is in a tiny space with a door, and the shower is next to it, no door. Yes, there is a pull around curtain that encircles the entire "bathroom" area, which is adjacent to your front door. Open your front door, there's the bathroom with no separate door or wall. I would not stay there again, even comped.

We have stayed in the Rush Tower, and I thought some rooms did have two queen beds?
Thanks everyone. I've concluded that we'll stay at The Golden Nugget.
