Good bye $20 trick

I read in the LA Times travel section that self-check-in kiosks are coming to LV. Apparently they are already in service at Caesars, Flamingo and Linq. Has anyone seen or used one yet? Progress(?) rears its ugly head again and people will lose jobs, and we will have no say in what room we get.
If it helps with the long check in lines, I am all for it!

It is silly that it can take 4 hours or more from the time you land at the airport to pick up luggage, a rental car, and check into a hotel room.

Dollar Express certainly helps - but even with Dollar Express, I needed to wait nearly one hour on my last trip pickup my car and exit the rental car facility.
Last few trips when I would be staying a couple nights at Caesars, I got an e-mail telling me that I could "check in" by e-mail when I arrive in Vegas, deposit my bags at the bell desk, and go on about my way. I would be called on cell phone when my room was ready, pick up my keys and luggage at the bell desk.

I didn't go for it because 1) I also was concerned that I would not get the room/tower I requested, and 2) I don't have an iPhone to "check in" with. But mainly for reason #1.

I'm sure this could relieve long lines at the regular check in stations.

I hadn't heard about the kiosk system, but not surprised.

BTW, nothing was said when I went to Diamond/7* check in place. They had me down for what I had requested.

We have ourselves to thank for the loss of jobs that occurs with techno progress. We mourn for those folks globally, but we want speedy service, whatever it takes. If it gets you to your room without having to stand behind 3 other people, many of whom are dickering with the clerk about their room assignment, their bill, etc., this would be a good thing.

And if the elimination of jobs translated to lower prices for us, better odds in the casino...yeah, right. OK, rant over.
It might not lead to many job losses. You still need front desk people to handle all the one-offs: wrong room type, handicap access, special requests, early checkin, leaky faucets, wake up calls, etc, etc, etc. Having said that, I've never really experienced long waits for checkin in Vegas. The longest wait I ever had was 30 minutes at the Mirage and they ended up giving me a suite upgrade for free - i didn't even ask.

Win Star World Hotel already has this in their check in area. It does cut down on the wait time. I was comped so I swiped my card type in confirmation # , swiped credit card, and ID. Screen then tells you the room # and tower, hit accept and 2 room keys show up. BAM a room in under 5 min.
They also replaced all their player cards employees with kiosk. swipe ID and new player card for you.

I think it will result in a LONGER line if you need to talk to a clerk and not a machine. it's just like at the grocery store or walmart. If you don't want to use the self-checkout, then you may have to choose from 2 or 3 cashiers working with a very long line. does the payroll savings result in lower prices? not that I can see.
There would not be any long lines if the cheapo casinos would hire more people to man the check in desks. The same goes for the stores. I can not count the times I have had to stand in line because there were empty check in stations that were unmanned.
Riviera had this. I used it twice, both times getting absolute crap for rooms. I'd guess they load it so the garbage rooms go out on that system so the counter people can give better rooms.
I could swear I used something like this at the Flamingo a few years ago. Maybe they were trying it out.

OOOOOOOH! Get it fast ,but it will be garbage? Need to have a choice of kiosk or the REAL front desk, please. Depends how tired you are and what mood you are in.

Reduce the employees means more profit, not better service or casino odds/service.
The stock holders are all for it.I'm sure that they voted to charge for parking, too.I want COMP parking!
It's the rise of the machines. The money machines.Coming to a casino near you.
Self check is in the grocery stores.Your choice,so far....
