Governor Pence finally did it (POL)

The mountain of corporations that are speaking out against the corrupt Republican Pence is growing by leaps and bounds.

When a corporation such as NASCAR, which is probably the most far right Republican as you can get when it comes to a sports organization, issues a statement AGAINST a far right Republican such as Pence and his band of merry lawmakers, then you know you have gone too far.

NASCAR Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer Brett Jewkes: "NASCAR is disappointed by the recent legislation passed in Indiana. We will not embrace nor participate in exclusion or intolerance. We are committed to diversity and inclusion within our sport and therefore will continue to welcome all competitors and fans at our events in the state of Indiana and anywhere else we race."

Perhaps Gov Pence will do the right thing and step down as chief hatemaker of Indiana. But I doubt that. The next few weeks will involve damage control and putting a positive spin on the situation by enlisting the Koch Bros, AM radio fearmongers, and the team over at Faux Entertainment Channel.

I do think he has ruined his chances at climbing in the clown car for a 2016 shot at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Plus, that car is already chock full of idiots, criminals, and haters.

I sure am glad marcisdave put a smiley face ( )at the end of that post. Otherwise, I might have been, like, offended, . . . or, . . . or, . . . frightened, . . .or, . . . or, . . . something.

Does DonDiego spend a lot of time thinking about that question?
Umm, . . . no. This was the first time poor old DonDiego had read about the "Gay for a Day" legislation.
I believe Gay Day in Appalachia is Oct. 25th

I look forward to DonDiego's photos of this year's G.D. efforts.

Here is my question: In a state that has no 'Religious Freedom' law, can a gay couple successfully sue the Catholic (or name your flavor) Church because it refuses to perform marriage services for gay couples? If not, why not?

Is this a church/state first amendment issue applied only to recognized churches but not to businesses or to individuals? Does it apply to services offered by church owned businesses like Hospitals and Medical Centers and Universities?

The Catholic Church can and has refused to marry people for hundreds of years for a variety of reasons and they can continue to do so. This was never even an issue.

When you get to a church owned businesses like a hospital it gets to be a trickier issue. Is the hospital a profit or non-profit enterprise and does the hospital accept state or federal taxpayer funding? If they do it generally it means they have to be willing to serve all taxpayers for services they normally provide.

What about individual employees of said taxpayer funded hospital? What if a doctor or nurse doesn't want to care for a gay patient based on their religious beliefs?
The Civil Rights act answered all of these question a half century ago. If you presume sexual orientation is not a life choice but something you are born with (like skin color) then the same rules apply.
But the same people who deny evolution presume sexual idenitity IS a life choice despite all medical science that says otherwise. So now we get to re-litigate the Civil Rights Act all over again. Fun, ain't it?

I'm not too worried. The results will be the same . History remembers the 1960's fight as a war between righteous freedom marchers and scumbags who oppressed them. History will remember this era in the same regard. What side will you be remembered to be on?

Hmmmm........Something you are born with.......and not a life choice.

I worked with a gentleman who became a lady after 15+ years of marriage and 3 children. His wife divorced him and his two boys stopped associating with him for this "life choice", but his daughter was OK with it because she had another person to shop with. ;-)

Umm, . . . this year it is a Sunday, so poor old DonDiego might well be at Buffalo Wild Wings watching football, . . . but this year he'll wear fuchsia instead of Eagles Green.
