Green Valley Ranch

So, I'm not sure if it's official but it looks like our national dance competition is going to be at GVR next July. So far, the room rates look decent but I haven't looked close enough to see about a resort fee. Will I need a rental car? Are there other more budget friendly hotels or timeshares nearby? Should I book now or do you think rates will drop? What is the casino like? Nice pool? Tell me all I need to know.
Off the beaten path but a very nice casino and higher end hotel. Shopping mall across the street. it is probably a 20 minute drive to the strip. You will need a car

Vegas room rates fluctuate like the stock market; although the best rates tend to be be 30 to 60 days out as the hotels then have a handle on their occupancy. Since GVR is the host hotel it will likely fill up so their rates may be higher than normal
The resort fee at GVR is $24.99 per night plus taxes. Yes, it is off the beaten track, but if you are only staying for a few days, you could get away without one though the cab fare will be pretty high. You will have a wide variety of restaurant options both in GVR and the adjoining District.

GVR is a top notch resort with large, well appointed and maintained rooms and an excellent pool. I think you will be happy. I have seen a few Groupon type offers for 1/2 off rack rates so I would not book too far in advance unless you can cancel.

If you are on facebook, like GVR and you will find there are periodic postings of room sales. If not, check the GVR website frequently under Promotions for sales. Right now it is 20% off, but I have seen 40%.

As to budget friendly options, I would include Sunset Station and Fiesta-Henderson. Their respective resort fees are $14.99 and $9.99 and they are a few steps down from GVR in quality and would require a car.

Another alternative, one I prefer if you have a car rental, is South Point. Per mapquest, it is 6 miles, 10 minutes away though during the peak times it takes a few minutes longer. No resort fee and there are periodic room sales. Sign up for emails and/or like them on facebook. You receive 2 decent funbooks at check-in with some decent coupons.
Thanks Hoops and Westie. Lots of good information. I just may consider Southpoint if I can't find a good discount for GVR. It's always better to stay on site for a dance comp. but if I can save a substantial amount of money I'll go somewhere else. I will rent a car for sure but this time they won't sucker me into a convertible Mustang. I did just hear from the studio owner that we are for sure going to Las Vegas. It's quite a relief because our other choice was Disneyland. I think I'd rather poke my eye out.

We stayed there about 8 or 9 years ago and had a great time. I had an invite for a blackjack tournament for three nights. When Ameristar bought the Station casino in St. Charles, some of the workers moved to Vegas to keep working for the company. When they found out we were there, they took real good care of us.

It is well off the strip so you might need a car.

The rooms are large, comfortable, have large bathrooms with a large soaking tub and separate shower. I hope it works out for you to stay at GVR.
I'm kind of bummed. The more research I do the more I don't want to go to GVR. It doesn't look like my kind of place. I wouldn't mind sitting at the pool but there's no shade that I can see in the photos and I'm not paying for a cabana. I also notices the shops in The District close very early at 9:00. Although, they don't really have any shops that would appeal to a 14 year old girl anyway. I think it's too fancy schmancy for me.
