I'm going to start writing this thing on an almost daily basis as sit takes too long to do when I get home, and I forget a lot of things. So far, we've been here 5 days, so I'll try and catch up, and then write all the good stuff down daily.
TextDAY 1
I picked up the rented Lincoln MK S on Thursday hoping to get an early start on Friday Feb. 4th. I really don't like driving to Vegas on a Friday, or leave on a Sunday for obvious traffic reasons. I swear that SoCal employees must have the easiest work schedules, as the roads can start to back up with traffic as early as 1 PM. I really don't like to deal with traffic, and I SWORE we'd be on the road by no later than 11 PM. Well that didn't happen.
My dog sitter flew in from Chicago and arrived at 9:25 pm, although SWA said on their website that the flight was delayed and wouldn't arrive until 10:05. Remember, Chicago had that horrendous snowstorm on the previous Monday and Tuesday, and we didn't think he would even get out of Chicago, which would throw a wrench into all our plans. He was originally scheduled to arrive on January 19th on a $109 airfare. Well certain things happened in our household and we had to delay him coming until February 3rd. The airfare had changed to....get this...$409!!!!! Now that really sucked but there was nothing I could do if I wanted to get to Vegas for the Super Bowl. And I did.
So that Thursday I'm checking the flight arrivals, and they show there's going to be at least a 30 minute delay. But, the winds were blowing from the east, and he actually zarrived 15 minutes ahead of what his original landing was suppose to be. Poor guy, he had to wait at the airport until I picked him up at 10:15 pm. He called my cell phone, but naturally I left it home so I never got the message.
So we finally got on the road at 2:30 pm, and steam must have been coming out of my ears when we hit the first logjam near San Bernadino. We wound up arriving in Vegas as a few minutes before 7 PM. Actually no too bad a time to cover the 300 miles.
I pulled up to valet to unload the car, and it was like being home again. We hadn't been there since the middle of November, so we were chomping at the bit to get inside and start playing. I left her with the bellman to start getting the car unpacked while I went to the front desk to check in.
As I was walking to the front desk, I wondered if my friend or her son and GF had checked in yet as I had gotten them rooms for a few nights. My friend was already in town as he had been staying at Sam's Town, and wanted to stay a few extra nights as he had hit 2 Royals and 7 four deuces in his stay there. But neither of them had checked in yet, and although I expected that from her son, something had to be wrong for my friend not to be checked in as it was already past 7 at night, and he was only coming in from ST. Something was wrong! When we got to our normal suite and got things somewhat unpacked, I decided to give him a call. He's one of the few people left in the world that has no cell phone.....him and my dogsitter. So I called his house, and got no answer. He could have changed his mind and decided to go home. Then I had him paged in the casino thinking maybe he was waiting for us to check in before he did the same. But no answer there either. So when we got downstairs, and I got her seated at the center bar, I walked the whole casino looking for him. No luck there either. I finally bumped into my host, and he said he thought he was coming in on Sunday! OH NO!!!! This is the type of guy, that if something isn't right, and his name wasn't listed, he would just turn aroound and drive back to California. But my host assured me that even if he was trying to check in on Friday, and his reservation was on Sunday, they would call the host and get it straighted out. But, the wind up was, when his name wasn't on the reservation for Friday, he just went home. Oh well, at least he wasn't in an accident or something like that. I think what really happened, is that he didn't like the paytables in the casino...which he mentioned to me later....and didn't feel like losing a lot of the money he had won at ST, and that's why he left.
So I got my seat at the bar, and it wasn't going to be a long session as her son called and we were all going to meet for the delicious Friday night buffet. Since it was now 7:45 pm, and they were meeting us at 8:15, it wasn't going to be a long session at all. But we would sure put in some time after dinner.
The four of us sat down to eat and I had to bring my honey her egg drop soup right away as she was starving. It's getting harder and harder for her to walk around, and the pain this neuropathy was causing her I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. The skin on her hands is so sensitive, that she now has to wear gloves almost all the time because of the pain and how cold her hands are. Well dinner was great and it was time to get back to what we came her for, so back to the bar we went.
The bonus jackpot at the bar had just reached a little over $5300. I wound up taking $2500 to start with, because the last two trips I've been taking $3000 or more and those trips weren't much fun. Besides, a Bank of America is right up the street in case I need more dough. For those of you that don't know, or remember, the bar $1 jackpot is progressive on Bonus Poker only. They progress the Royal, four aces, and four 2-3-4's.
I like to switch between Bonus Poker, and DDB, as there's a big difference in hitting the four Aces, ansd 2-3-4's, as well as gettin paid 250 coins for any other 4OAK. I gave her son and GF some money to play with as they had joined up at the bar. I sat down to a really good machine while the other half coiuldn't hit dirt. I kept on getting 3 nines and I told everyone my first 4OAK was going to be 4 nines. Well sure enough, I got dealt three of them, and the 4th popped up on the draw. But that was only going to be the begining of a 4 run.
In short order, I hit 4 7's on BP, then hit 4 8's on DDB. I went back to BP for a while, then decided to switch back to DDB. I hadn't played but 3 or 4 hands, when I got DEALT 4 Aces. DEALT for crying out loud. But the BEST part was, I hadn't even drawn yet, and I was guaranteed $800 with a chance to get a $2000 payoff!! WOW!! The 8 of hearts was my fifth card, and when I hit the draw button....it was replaced by....the freakin' Jack of hearts! Oh well! Would have made a GREAT start to the trip, but $800 was nothing to sneeze at.
The Silverton is having some interesting promotions goin on in February. At the bars, you pay $10 for the draft beer Stella, and not only do you get the nice glass the pour the beer in, but you can drink Stella all day for the same $10. The other promotion is something called "LADY LUCK IN FEBRUARY". When you put 500 points on your card in a day, you go up to the Players Club and get a scratcher. On the flat screens behind the Players Club desk is a four car poker hand. You hand them your card, they check your points and hand you a scratcher. You then scratch off the card in front of them, and if you get nothing to help the hand, your get 5 bucks in free slot play. Somehow there's a way to get $10 in FSP, but I can't remember how. If you complete the hand you get $50 in FSP. For example, if say there was a 7-8-9-10 on the board, and you pulled a 6 or jack, making a straight, you'd get the 50. But the joke of it is that there is scratcher dust all over the place. I swear, I feel like bringing them one of those portable vacuums down there to clean up the place.
Now you can win up to $10,000 with a lcuky scratcher. Here's how. One or more days during the promotion, they are going to have a 4 card Royal Flush up on the board. Fill in the missing card, and VOILA you pocket the $10,000. Not a bad deal.
Anyway, we stopped playing around 1:30 am, and called it a night. Tallied up the day and I was $290 ahead. But that included $180 I had layed out in tips to various people. But I was ahead, and that's all that mattered.
Well it's almost 5 pm, and I haven't even put .10c in a machine yet. She was going to rest on Tuesday and Wednesday, and it's Tuesday today. So I'm heading to the shower and go downstairs for a little entertainment. Be back later today, or in the morning to catch up on the report. Best thing is on this trip, I haven't even had to go to the bank or ATM yet, and one good hit, like 4 aces with the kicker, or several 4OAK's and I'm back to even or ahead! Can't complain about that!
