Quite a few years ago in our neighborhood two gentlemen started a little friendly feud as to who put their Christmas decorations up first. In an effort of ultimate one-up menship one house was fully decorated for Christmas on Labor Day.
Well, the homeowner's association had enough and now we have a set of rules that even the two gentlemen who started it all agreed to. We have an official "First lighting" on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I would say about 1/3 of or 70 home neighborhood participates.
