Harmon Killebrew RIP

It is just touching to me to see how many people on this site remember him and respected him. It's easy for me as I grew up in Minnesota. I'll never forget the battles with him and Yaz, and him and Boog Powel. You always knew they were going to be great games and one of those 3 were going to be the factor for the winner. He was a great man.
I have a few responses to various posts.

As to how quickly he seemed to go. It was announced over the weekend that he had abandoned further treatment and was going into hospice care. Typically, once you go into hospice, the wheels are turning for your due date.

I'd never heard the remarks about the major league logo. The silouette does resemble him. It would need to be a mirror image though as the logo batter is a lefty and he was a righty. Could be though.

As far as his career is concerned, I think he has always been underated. Unfornately he played in the era of "The Mick," Maris breaking the single season HR mark and Aaron doing the same to the career mark. This guy could flat out murder the ball. I'll always remember my first BB card of him in his jersey with no warmup under. All you could see were the biceps and massive forearms. What a killer.

Good Luck!

The MLB logo is a righty. You need to look at it closer. The real logo includes a baseball.

Harmon Killebrew's first major league appearance was pinch running for the legendary Clyde Vollmer who had been hit by a pitch in the 2nd inning.
The White Sox prevailed that day 8-6.

Edit: Harmon Killebrew by all accounts was a class act. RIP Harmon.

I'll take "Major League Baseball History" for $200, Alex?
That was one hell of a lineup the Twins had back then.

I beleive it included Tony Oliva, Zoilo Versalles, and maybe even Rod Carew (not sure about that last one).

The only pitcher I can remember right now is Jim Kaat.

Maybe some of the other oldsters in this forum can remember some of the other players.

By the way, anyone here ever hear of, or even play, an old baseball board game called Strat-O-Matic? I was an absolute, complete addict back in the Killebrew days.
Strat o matic? Did that have magnets for a baseball? Or was that the game with the cards? I have a game from 1969 All Star version. The magnet game was old when I "inherited" it from an older cousin.

MLB Logo Designer Jerry Dior talks about the logo.

Major League Baseball logo

The silhouette was chosen specifically because of its ambiguity: the batter could be right- or left-handed and of any ethnic background.
