Have an old windows machine that runs slow?

memory scan

This link above is to Crucial's website. They have a memory scanner tool that will tell you how much memory (RAM) is currently installed in your computer and how high of an upgrade will be possible for your model.

Edited to add: By the way if you might be weary of the link above, you could instead go to Crucial.com or Kingston.com as well (or just about any manufacturer of RAM memory).

I am. I've been using Unix professionally since '85.
almost any new fresh install of any OS is going to run faster. (except trying to put winblows 7 on it).

There was a time I used to do a fresh install every couple of months when computers werent as fast as they are now. Then again, at the same time, I was also buying new power mac's at every new release.

Wonder if you could put the new Chrome OS on an old PC? hrmmmm..
And all this time Ive been just putting the old puters at the end of my driveway and watching them disappear in 3mins or less..

You could improve those times if you put a "For Sale" sign on it, and put it on a table.

Unfortunately, they might take the table also. LOL

Many years ago I had a "nice" vintage looking marble bathroom sink after a remodel, put it out for "bulk trash" but was a day late. After about a week, I put a "For Sale" sign on it for laughs. It was gone within hours. So was the sign.

That was well before the days of Habitat for Humanity, etc, so donating it was difficult. I'd telephoned a couple of places, but they would not pick up just the sink. Their loss. :::shrug:::

Last I checked, Apple was making their hardware compatable with intel so it could be possible.

Thats hilarious and brutal...some peoples kids man
No....

"Hilarious and brutal" was when I bought my ex a new purse. She carried one of those monster bags that many women are so fond of.

Anyway, I'd gone out to a sale and purchased a new 13" TV for the bedroom, and a VCR, and while out saw a big purse I knew she would like, and hers was well worn. It was the Grand Opening of a store called "Incredible Universe", owned by Tandy, with unbelievable prices for their opening.

After I got home, (she loved the purse), I took the empty VCR box, TV box, and her old purse. I put kitchen garbage in the purse, and some rocks and cinder block in the VCR & TV boxes. I resealed them with tape.

Went out to my "beater", put her purse on the driver side roof, the TV box on the ground behind the car, and the VCR box on the trunk.

I went back inside to watch, got a beer from the fridge, and watched two guys "sneak" up to steal the goodies from the kitchen window.

We were living on a thru street with lot's of traffic, with "not so good" areas bordering us on three sides.

They were FAST!

We laughed and laughed.

I think that was brutal.
