Haven't Been There for Sometime.

The last time we were there was Sept 2009. Stayed at the Orleans and had a very nice room and enjoyed our 5 day stay. However, since then hard times have fallen on all areas of the country and Las Vegas in particular. My question are a few and basically center around the quality of the recent Las Vegas experiences? What hotels/casinos offer the best experience for your buck? Is off the strip still the best bet? Have hotel services, ie. clean rooms, food service and surroundings faltered? Are there still decent places to play VP, downtown or off strip? Just trying to get the feel for the present atmosphere and quality of a Las Vegas stay. Thank You.
You probably get a much bigger bang for your buck now as premium resorts have been forced to sell rooms at below-premium prices. The mid ranged joints sell for even less. Plenty of good games and cheap eats downtown...fewer on the strip..but thats how its always been.

It sounds like you are concerned the overall quality of the city has deteriorated from a visitor's point of view. I would say, no, it hasn't. You can find examples of properties in decline (Riviera, Sahara, Circus Circus) and you can find examples of properties that have renovated (Tropicana, Golden Nugget, Hard Rock). Just like in past years you can find great bargains and horrendous tourist traps. Homework is the key.
oops sorry
Much the same as PJ voiced. Their are some very very good values in town.

A very mid-range price hotel casino is South Point. Some pretty good food values along with 6 or 7 restaurants to pick from. Only Michaels is on the upper side of dining cost.
The rooms are a very good value. At the present if you go online you can get rooms for $42. per night. For these rooms this is a really good value.
It is south end of things and it does sit pretty much to itself. Silverton is just up the road north a short jaunt.

I can not speak to downtown, we stayed there for a 2 night visit but it has been probably 6-7 years ago. MSS at that time. Which offered good gaming ,good food and rooms that were okay but the bathrooms sucked.

Their are some good values on the strip as well. It is of course alittle more expensive then the area's and places mentioned above.

Good luck
