I can't help you for your trip but let me give you a tip for trips in the future, because I've had the same thing on organizing ski trips. At the time of planning you will get a lot of people who say they will go and that it sounds exciting. When it comes time for booking or getting solid committment from them, they back out and flake on you, because they haven't given you a dime.

You need to get money from them at the very beginning before you book a single room, flight or event, and tell them it is money that they won't get back if they choose to change their minds. There will always be some friends who you can depend upon, but most others will flake unless they stand to lose a fair amount of money.

Two possibilities:

1. You are sincere and naive. Giving out your phone number on a random internet message board is a bad idea.

2. You just punk'd the owner of that number.

this has also happened to me. Two years in a row now. After booking they cant go. Then I have to tell them tough luck charlie. I always ask them before I book if they want to take the insurance and they never want to pay for it so they dont take it. Booked this trip with Travelocity and we are flying Fronteir airlines. No refunds or name changes allowed. Just a flight credit in the name of the person that cant go. This policy is so wrong. Its his ticket he payed for it so he should be able to give it to someone else. We were willing to pay the name change fee but no dice.

Will never book a large trip with 8 guys again with travelocity. I would rather pay more and book with a better airline with a better policy.
