Hiking in Las Vegas vicinity

Curious if anyone here has gone hiking out in the Red Rocks area (or anywhere else) near Vegas. Looking for an easy-to moderate hike for healthy 4 adults, perhaps 3 hours total maybe 2-4 miles with a nice view.

Would appreciate any recommendations.

Red Rock Canyon has quite a few moderate hikes, all of them with good views. If you're headed there this time of year take plenty of water and make sure you get an early start - not a whole lot of shade to be found. Ice Box Canyon trail is pretty nice and would be one choice that would fit your criteria. Stop at the cool new visitor center for maps and more info. Did I mention taking plenty of water???
I've done some of the easier trails on Red Rock...the ones that are within viewing distance of the main road. I go in December so the weather isn't a big problem but I cant imagine doing it in the middle of the day this time of year. Maybe early morning or after dinner.

I have a somewhat irrational fear of stumbling upon a nest of Africanized bees. I read about an attack last week somewhere in sourthern California. I think such attacks very few and far between...kinda like shark attacks. But then again I have issues with the going in the ocean too

Haven't heard of any shark attacks lately at Red Rock Canyon, but I'm always on the lookout...

Thanks for the input. We'll be there the 3rd week of October, so I'm hoping it will be nice and hot, but not oppressive. There seem to be a few good websites with recommendations. I figured it would be a good (free) way to kill a couple hours while walking off my hangover.
Oh, and I'm not planning to bring any hiking boots or extra gear with me. If I can't do it in my sneakers and cargo shorts, I aint doing it.
I like to "hike" red rock by looking out the window of my suite at the red rock hotel. That's exhausting enough!
Mary Jane Falls trail, Mt Charleston area, has some nice views when you get to the falls. Unless there has been some recent rainfall, there won't be a lot of water flowing over the falls at that time of year. The trail is in good shape and clearly marked. It's a steady uphill climb, but not too steep. The temps will be 20 degrees cooler than in Vegas.
