Hit a Royal and got charged for my beer

So can you cash out, stick another $20 in and get it comped?
I was playing a little VP at the Stage Door and had about $8.50 in the machine when we decided to leave. The cashier looked aghast when I took my ticket in to cash out. I guess they expect everyone to play until their money runs out.

Dude, its a strip bar. Nuff said. Gambling likely isnt the main draw there
I may (probably) would have asked for my original tip (from the RF) to be returned, paid the $7 for the beer, and left.

Oh, yeah, and quite possibly become loud and obnoxious if/when my tip "refund" request were denied.

I'd look at this event as their effort to screw me, and under the described circumstances, would vigorously resist and retaliate within the law.

If it looks like dog poop, smells like dog poop, and .... well...... you know.

Oh, wait a moment.....
I forgot, I no longer tip for hand pays. I do tip individually to show my appreciation for good service. Not because it's expected or customary. For my 'home' casino, I buy & keep some Gift Cards for Publix & Walmart, ranging from $5.00 up to $20. I gift them to individual attendants a day or two after a W2G, or other times as well.

They get to keep the GC, do not have to put it into the tip pool. So they get rewarded for good service, and I'm not paying for the "bad" CSR's. I usually tell them "Happy belated Birthday" or something. And last year gave out about 35 GC's in that manner.

I fully agree with RoadTrip and will pick up some gift cards for those who deserve them.

I still boycott the casino itself...but I utilize the hotel and restaurants occasionally.

I've been going to the GN for many many years, and every time playing at their bars while having a comped drink or two. Of course, top shelf drinks and not comped for players, just like most other casinos. The other exception that I have witnessed many times is when people play short pay (1-4 coins on a 5 coin game) or put in $10 or so into the machine, play a couple of hands, and expect a comp drink. They are denied. Of course, anyone whose behavior leads the bartender to suspect they already had too much to drink would also be denied a comp drink. Besides that, for the hundreds of people I have seen playing around me in the many years, not one have I seen ever denied a comp drink at the bars there, aside from the reasons I have stated.

As far as your boycott, it's not really a boycott if you are giving them business. That's like boycotting a supermarket by refusing to buy produce there anymore, but still grocery shopping there periodically.

My wife and I were at GN in Vegas last summer at the VP bar. We sat down and played some VP. I think we each put in $20 or $40 and were playing max bet of $1.25. We ordered a cocktail and a bottle of water each. The bartender said he couldn't give us the cocktail and the water right then. He said he'd give us the cocktail now and then give us the water in a little while. We drank the cocktails and never did get the water. We headed to another casino where they don't sweat you for a bottle of water.

I dont know what the correct word is...lets just say i reserve my play for places with a more player friendly atmosphere. I dont have any spite for the Golden Nugget....and the experience i had may no longer be an issue there. Im just sharing my experience in accordance with the thread topic.

Yes, a water and a cocktail counts as two drinks in many casinos. You can't get comped two drinks at the same time. So, he was asking you to have one and then the other after some play. This is not unique to the Golden Nugget.

I will just say given my experience (again, playing next to hundreds of people over the years at GN and none being denied a comp except for the reasons I stated earlier), I will just have to say, it is likely that there is more more to your story than you present here. Like you, I was just sharing my experience over the many years there, and I am quite friendly with a couple of the bartenders, who have told me the company policy. The GN comps players drinks, unlike places like Wynn.

I understand that you do not wish to play there. I am just saying, the GN has the same comp drink policy as most LV casinos.
