Home Alone: Parents abandon kids for Vegas Trip

Two Chicago parents are facing counts of child endangerment after leaving their two children home alone to take a trip to Las Vegas.

Abandoned for Vegas Trip
so how many of you who are parents have not had this thought at least cross your mind, just for a second?
How old do they have to be before you can abandon them?
I think it was very responsible of them to leave the kids home so they didn't miss school.

Apparently the kids got through the weekend without any difficulties, and were outed by a teacher when they returned to school.

The 12 year old could be a very responsible and mature kid. We don't know.

I know I used to "babysit" my younger sister when I was 10-11 and it was parents "date" night. We don't know the circumstances. Perhaps a relative lived close by and the kids could call, or someone "looked in" daily, etc etc.

The news report surely is not giving a balanced perspective.

I'm temporarily neutral on this. Just not enough info, and no idea about the kids and their maturity level, or what actual arrangements were made, etc.

I hear ya but 9 and 12 is a bit too young.
We would not leave our son home alone for a trip until he was 18 years old, and even then I worried he might burn the house down.

My folks did this to me in 1982!

Course, I was 22 at the time...and they agreed to place some football bets for me...so I didn't tell my teacher hehe
My parents left my sister and me for a week when she was 18 and I was 17. Yes, we had a party. Yes, there were over 100 drunk kids there. Yes, her 25 year old low-life boyfriend punched me in the face and there was a big fight in which I was knocked out. Yes, the cops were invoved. Yes (and to this day, decades later) my parents never learned of the epic party but never understood how we were so clumsy to inadvertently break so much stuff that one week they were gone.

Oh, I think your parents had some inkling there was some immoral behavior while they were gone. Good think you didn't break the Febrege egg.
