Horseplayers - - the show

Wondering if any of you gamblers have been watching the show "Horseplayers" on the Esquire TV network. The network is fairly new - they don't have much on it - this is one of their few original shows.

I would suspect they take a fair amount of license in the "reality" of the series, but I find it entertaining just the same. If you hang around the track, or a race book, you are going to see characters like the main ones on the show. With the exception of "Odd Ball" maybe.

Believe season one finale is tomorrow (Wednesday) night.

Curious what others might think.

And by coincidence.....

Spent a little time last weekend at the local OTB. Was playing Keeneland. Had a horse named Myositis Dan in an exacta box I was betting. Dan won - - my other two horses came in 3rd & 4th. So much for that.

Had an episode on the DVR saved - turned it on to watch that night. Forgot when I set the timer that they were at Keeneland. Turned out, not only that, but one of the story lines revolved around Myositis Dan. Dan is owned by the former governor of Kentucky, Brereton Jones (which I hadn't realized). One of the players hangs around with his daughter all episode - - and then ends up in the big photo op when Dan wins.

Instead of the exacta, should have bet Dan to win earlier in the day like they did on the show!
I've watched some of the episodes. Along with some folks at work, we have a small interest in a race horse. The horse sucks. But we've been hanging out at the track more or at OTB. The Zen dude with the hair band on the show is kind of wacky but there's no denying he knows how to handicap. One of the guys I work with just hit an exacta, trifecta, superfecta and pick 4 over a 24 hour period.

I've watched several episodes of this show and kind of enjoyed it. Many times these guys are entered in different handicapping contests. They remind me of a friend who is an avid horseplayer. They hate the chalk and will generally find any reason they can to bet a horse that will pay good money, even though the chalk is very likely to win.
I love the show. But I wish the wouldn't encourage the program slapping and yelling. There are already enough guys at OTB that yell at the horses as they're coming down the stretch. I've never seen anyone with a pyramid or magnets at OTB like Hellmers uses to create positivity in his space.

I yell at the TV at OTB. I admit it.

I was wondering about that - if that's part of the "schtick" and they're encouraged/directed to do it. Or maybe they're just screamers!

Apparently they do play with the race video a little - editing in shots from one race to another for effect. I believe it was Facebook that I saw that on; someone who was familiar with a particular race noticed different horses running in it!
I find the show entertaining, and Hellmers is the real deal. Just within the past couple weeks he won the Horseplayer's World Series in Vegas, beating about 750 contestants and taking home $269,000

The pick 4 was $2550, trifecta was $744, exacta was $315 and the super was about $800. He's got the bug, now.
