Both were wonderful. Only drawback is that they are not on the strip.

maybe not on the strip but well worth the drive out to stay at either of those great places.

Actually I got very lucky at Green Valley Ranch. I booked through Travelzoo. The deal called for a $100 resort credit that was good at any restaurant or shop at the resort. There was a boxing match that weekend and GVR had released my room to another person, even though I arrived timely. They upgraded me to a grand suite, with bar and dining room.

Well, I may be still a Vegas newbie, since I have only been there 6 or 7 times in 2 years (going again end of February). But I know when a place is kind of crappy.

I have heard from many people in here that the Rio use to be THE place to be. But i am thinking that was 8+ years ago. The last time my girlfriend and I went was last year at the end of January. We both got food poisening and were sick the whole trip, they over charged my credit card for $467+ and the upgraded room they gave us was worse than the first one. That hotel is pretty run down. Very smokey and some undesirables wondering around. If there is a time that we really want to go to Vegas and can't afford the nicer hotels, I may stay there as the prices for rooms are cheap. Other than that, never again.

Just curious, why won't you be returning to the Rio? They are one of my finalists for a small conference I am throwing in August, and I'd like to understand anything that should raise a red light. It's been about 8 years since I stayed there, and honestly, I thought it wasn't bad.

See my post above this one Tyler. I screwed up.
