Hotel Room Deposit opinion needed

I received an offer in the mail from Terribles for 3 nights in a "suite" $100 in food and $40-$500 on the kiosk game. (usually gives $75-$150) I already have Gold Coast for 2 nights comped and Mandalay for 2 nights comped so I am good.

So I thought I would book the offer to receive the food and freeplay but not have to stay there. When I went to book the offer they charged my credit card $50 and it posted to my account. There is a $100 room deposit for all comped rooms and they explained they would charge another $50 at check-in. I guess my question is doesn't this seem kinda shady. A hold was not placed but an actual charge that I have to pay off before I travel there....

Thanks

What you're doing, or what they're doing? Thank you, thank you very much; I'll be here all week.
This is pretty typical from what we've seen. If you need to cancel - as long as it is within their terms (I believe usually 72 hours), they'll credit the deposit back to your account.

No worries.
Nothing new in the world of "comp rooms". They just don't want people "booking" them and being no shows. We have placed "deposits" at other properties. Never a problem about a cancel or credit you back after your visit expires.
Just check in, they don't spend the night in the room. simple enough

Ok thanks.. I will still gamble there I just don't like the hotel rooms and the smell. So I won't be shady to them.

I think I booked through my host last time and didn't have to use a credit card upfront is maybe the difference. I like booking with MGM properties because you never have to give a credit card upfront for a comped room.

I got a cheap ticket with Spirit Airlines so it's a 50/50 shot the plane even makes it to Vegas. HA!
I would not worry about the hotel room deposit, this has happened to me many, many times, and thee deposit was always credited.
My deposits last week were $25 at Hooters, and $100 at Texas , and Plaza. It takes 3 business days to get back on your account at 2 of them. Hooters showed up the next day.
i think some people are misunderstanding your question. or maybe just i am.

you have a COMPED room and they charged $50 in advance? that is weird.

normally comped rooms have the deposit placed at check in.

or rooms that are NOT comped have a deposit in advance.

but the combo of a charge on a comped room in advance, never.

the fact that you have to pay it on your card and then get it reversed at check out would turn me off and make me cancel.
I have a comp for 2 nights in a suite. When I called they said I would need to make a deposit of $50. Then when I arrive for check-in they would charge another $50 and then everything would be refunded at checkout. I know Terrible's requires a $100 deposit on all rooms but I thought this was done at check-in.

Just doesn't make sense to charge my credit card, I am billed and have to pay off the balance or have interest charged. I just called again and now the story is this is the only deposit that will be charged ($50). Nothing else will be required at check-in.

HMMM i guess i'll make sure to check my CC statement when it comes in. We had 2 nights booked at harrahs comped and i don't recall ever even giving them a CC# although it's entirely possible i did but i'm pretty sure i didn't. We did end up canceling the day we were supposed to check in. Icalled and the girl said "fine,no problem" and that was that. Now if it affects my usual snail mail 2 nights comped at any HET prop,i dont know. Anyway hope it turns out well will be interesting to see how it turns out for you.
