hotel room robbed (harrah's)

My daughter and her friend visited Las Vegas last week and stayed at Harrah's and the room was ripped off...her lap top ($1200.) and her ipod ($300.) backpack and a few other items were taken. My question is has this happened to you or someone you know, how unusual is this?? She called security and they came to the room and filled out a report...what is odd is they hung out the do not disturb sign every day they were there and did not request maid service once. One night when they returned to the room the maid had been in and made up the room, I thought this was odd...How could someone get in the room, did they leave the door open accidentally, that it did not latch, she doesnt think so or was the maid in on it?? Please comment if you have had this kind of bad luck!!!
You should stay downtown
I filled out a comment card on a maid at the Golden Nugget recently (forgot her name already!). I left my remaining bank roll on a desk in my hotel room ($2100). The maid came in , cleaned the room and didnt touch the chips, or cash! Whew!

I cannot believe that security doesnt have video of people going into the room. Hopefully it is just taking them along time to find the time to check it out. I would not stop sending them e-mails or making phone calls (being nice mind you) until I had a satisfactory answer! Its not like she lost $50 and can chaulk it up to life or something, $1500 is a lot of money!

Good luck weggie
I don't think I would have left the property without seeing the video.
That would prove the hotel innocent if it wasnt an employee.

Good thing you weren't at Binions. Their security people do all the stealing.
MGM has video cameras in the hallway. Does Harrah's? Either way, they can tell who accessed the room.

Why didn't they request maid service?
How many days was the sign on the door? Maybe the maid became concerned after several days and had her boss call the room. They may have cleaned it after determining that they were out and about and umm, not dead.

Edited to add that I know that does not explain the missing belongings, hope it works out.
There are no camera's anywhere in the hallways from what I have been told...I think they came back very late (or early in the am) and just hung the sign, went to bed and did not want to be disturbed. They had plenty of towels for showers and did not care about the room being made up...
Did they have guests? Give keys to anyone to bunk in?

Housekeeping is the last I would suspect.
no, they did not have anyone into their room, i asked her if it was possible that maybe the door did not close tightly behind her, and she did not think this was the case...even if this happened another guest is going to go in and rip off the room??? I find this hard to believe, am just wondering what other peoples experiences have been.
