hotel room robbed (harrah's)

I would never suspect the maid--al-tho there can be bad apples, its rare as hens teeth, the door had to be accidental open, not locked or closed.

sorry for her loss.
Perhaps someone who does look for open doors may do this near the housekeepers cart. They could trick them into letting them back into their room if they looked like they just came from one.

Rick
I am distrustful of everyone. When I bring my laptop and other valuables I always lock it up when I'm not in the room. Even if I put the do not disturb card I still lock everything up. I was in vegas 3 weeks ago, I also made it a point to check the door when I left and pushed it in to make sure it was secure and closed.

as others have said it is possible that the do not disturb sign was taken, she should ask her daughter if the sign was still on the door when she came back. I would file a complaint if the maid came into my room and cleaned up even though I had the do not disturb sign out.

Part of the problem I see is that the maids keep the door or multiple doors open when they are cleaning, it is easy to slip into another room and make a quick snatch and grab. that's why I always lock everything up when I'm not in the room. even if I go down for a quick bite I still lock everything up.

too bad about your daughter and her loss. put it down to a learned experience I guess but it was an expensive lesson.

Any time we came back to our room while the maid was there, she checked our door key in the door to make sure we belonged in that room. Have had this happen at both the Flamingo and Paris.
This is first report of a room theft that I have heard. That's a pretty good record.

Should have stayed at the Montecito... Sure it could happen but Big Ed, Danny and Mike would catch who ever

Sorry to hear about the loss, but it just shows that you have to be careful. I just assume that any valuables or money are at risk when I leave my room. It either goes in the safe or with me. There are so many different people that can access a room at given points that you have to assume the worst. I know it's a pain in the ass to take these precautions when you're in a hurry, especially when you're on vacation, but that's the way it is.

Good Luck!
