Actually that's because the hotels try to cover up any problems that occur as much as possible. That's why unless the news gets a hold of it you won't hear of any suicides or problems in a hotel, they don't want the public to hear negative or information that will show the hotel in a bad light.
Case in point: when they had that novovirus a few years ago it took awhile before the hotels finally admitted that they had a problem. Esp at the Cal, everyone knew about the novovirus and then finally a number of months later the Cal started admitting they had a problem and what they were doing to battle it. They had to admit it because it was giving the hotel a bad rep.
Kev2128, these were basically kids, they thought that by hanging a "do not disturb" sign on the door that nobody will enter their room and so they thought it was safe enough to leave their valuables out in the open. It was an expensive lesson to learn, as most of the people posting know, you never leave your valuables out in the open, but they had to learn it the hard way.
