How 'bout That NFL ?

Hey, it's April, . . . . and the NFL draft starts on Thursday evening, . . . so isn't it time to talk about the NFL?

DonDiego just read that some Judge ruled that the "lock-out" has been lifted. DonDiego doesn't know what that means. Does anybody here know?

All DonDiego wants is a normal NFL Pre-Season with the Draft and Trades and all sorts of things like that, and some Season-long bets to be posted, . . . and he'd like some minor body part to fall off Tony Romo after a collision in practice, just, . . . well, . . . just because he's a Cowboy.
DonDiego is an old man. He'd hate to miss an entire NFL Season;. . . he doesn't know how many more he'll get to see.
That's all.

And DonDiego was planning on experiencing the highpoint of his year on Sunday November 13th when he'd've escorted teechur to the Cardinals/Eagles game in Philadelphia. She'd've worn red; DonDiego'd've worn green. Some fun, eh?

Anyway, as usual DonDiego has high hopes for his beloved Eagles; it sure would've been cool to get some players/draft picks for Kevin Kolb before the draft this year. Oh well, what might have been.

Right this moment I'm in a suburb of Dallas. The sky is ugly. The air is heavy. The radio warns of tornadoes on the ground and on the way. The landscape is bleak, dotted with farms where weird looking cows and the occasional camel graze.

I sit at a bar in a dry county sipping a mediocre Merlot having just joined the free to join private club which allows me drinking privileges.

I hate Dallas even more.

Snidely - sounds like you are in Denton.....I've been there and I agree.

As for football, we are planning our Vegas trip around the football schedule. We plan to be in Vegas when my Bears play the Lions on MNF --- sounds like a scary "home dog" bet. Then we plan to be back in Chicago to attend the Bears Vikes on the follow SNF game.....this is IF they end this lockout / strike / foolishness.

Kevin Kolb's days as a Philadelphia Eagle are numbered and based upon when trades can resume in the NFL.

By the way, the NFL built into their schedule where they can have a stoppage for up to three weeks of the season and still play a full schedule. All of the teams that have byes after week three are scheduled to play each other during the third week of the season.

If the first three weeks were not played, the teams would forgo their byes and play each other in the weeks that their bye was scheduled. The season would be extended one week and the time between the championship games and the Super Bowl would be shortened from two weeks to one week.

NFL plans for work stoppage
What I don't understand is how they have time to hold a 'Royal Wedding' between Draft Rounds 1 and 2.

Well, . . . at least it sounds like the wine has improved since DonDiego's last visit.

The royal family insisted and the NFL agreed to let them have their wedding and then get back to what really matters, the NFL draft.
The lockout being lifted is more lip service than anything. Any ruling the players win the owners will file an appeal, which will take awhile to be upheld or overturned.

I read from a very credible NFL writer this morning that summed it up like this:

"This win for the players essentially moves them from their 20 yard line to the their 40 yard line...there's been some progress but they still have a LONG way to go."

Sucks because this is normally the time of year, now that the schedules are released, where the wife and I plan on our annual trip to an NFL city for a game. Obviously we aren't buying any airfare until the season is officially official.

That being said, nearly every mock draft has my Colts taking OT Nate Solder as their #1 pick, so I'm not nearly as excited as everyone else is about their team.

Although, by living near Washington, things here are always interesting when it comes to Danny-boy and the Shanahan's. no idea what they'll do.

Good offensive tackles that are blocking on the quarterback's blind side are generally the second highest paid player on the team (right after the quarterback). An offensive tackle may not be sexy, but Manning can't exist without a good line.
