How cool, Horse racing on the beach in A.C

It was just announced that Atlantic City will run two days of Horse racing on the Atlantic City Beach in October. I am not a huge Horse racing guy but what a cool Idea. They said it will be modeled after horse racing done in Italy for the past 200 years. I have never seen this before and will definitely be checking it out. The dates were not announced yet.
It does sound "cool", but not a good idea.
I see many injuries to the horses all because the owners want to get in on it.
Sand is very hard to run in compared to the dirt and turf tracks they currently train and race on.
I doubt any have sand at their access to train on.
Pulled ligaments, muscles or worse are what could and most likely will happen.
Tip...bet on horses who have run well at Belmont Park, which is nicknamed "Big Sandy"
Not a good thing. I agree with tree girl. We were always told to never run our horses on sand because of the huge risk of injury.

I think it sounds like a cool idea, but would hate to see any horses go down.

We went to the Va. gold cup one time and our tent/ cabana was in the first turn. Turned out there was a bad spot in that turn and we watched two horses go down right in front of us in consecutive races. I'm not a huge animal person but that was really emotional, cast a really somber mood all over a crowd that was partying and having a good time. Watching the screens go up around the horse and the rider saying a final good bye to their horse was extremely hard to watch, twice. I never want to see that again.

Just returned from AC , Did not see anything about Horse Racing on the Beach (Doubt if the City Fathers would ever allow that However they are Hosting a RODEO in the Boardwalk Hall Convention Center. . Probably a Play on words by the DO AC Convention center as a Play for Tourists
What they should do is create a giant permanent Sigma Derby course with mechanical horses and slots to bet the horses just like at MGM and the D. But make it to actual size, a one mile course right there on the beach. I would do it.

Looks like it's for real
I used to ride horses on the beach in AC back in the late 50's. Had a great time!
I live 60 miles North of Atlantic City in a Beach town and the sand on the beach in Atlantic City is much different then where I live. The sand by me is brown and very soft and can get very hot. The sand in Atlantic City is more of a gray color and more compact and does not get as hot. I believe they would not allow this if they felt it was more dangerous to the horses.
