How Many Points Do You Need For A SWA Free Flight?

A friend of mine has 5800 points and he asked me what was needed for a free flight. I didn't know so I went to the SWA site and clicked on the Rewards Center, but I couldn't see where they showed how many points were needed. They seemed to be "pushing" their CC and buying points for your trip. Anyone have a breakdown on points needed?
It depends on the dollar amount of the flight - there is no set amount of points = a free flight,
60 points per $1 of fare for wanna get away fares. On 3/31/14 it goes to 70 points per $1 of fare.

Your friend could buy $96.67 worth of wanna get away fares with 5800 points.
When you make a reservation on the site there is a button that allows you to toggle between dollars and points so you can see what it will cost you either way You can also change your reservation at a later date if the fare drops.

For example, I originally booked my roundtrip to Vegas for 23,000 points ...but they had a sale so I was able to rebook it for 18,000 points.

And it's great when the fare goes down because the points go back in your account and you don't have to worry about using the leftover credit in a specific time like you do when you charge it.
Thanks good to know, I really didn't think about the return of points and the expiration date.

The SWA FF program is crappy compared to the old system where 16 points got you a RT flight to/from ANYWHERE regardless of milage.

Now, the longer the milage of the flight the more points are sucked up.

A boon for Southwest, a loss for us customers.
