I went to a conference last week featuring the ceo of Zappos, Tony Heseih. I knew there was some investment on his part into Fremont East...but I never knew the degree. He went into great detail about his downtown project based upon getting the community to congregate to common areas.
Things he is largely responsible for:
- The COntainter Park - including startup cash for all the entrepreneurs in there
- The Restaurant "Eat" Downtown. He funded the lady who now owns, operates, and heads the kitchen in arguably the best lunch spot downtown.
- Gold Spike Hotel is now a community bar/hangout/open mike /free wifi cafe.
- Free seminars for locals by guest speakers flown in from all over the country. The Inspire Theatre.
