Hurricane Irene

What are you doing to prepare? Stockpiling food & water, boarding up windows, gasing up the car, staying or leaving? Hopefully Irene will diminish or head back into the ocean.
since I am almost 1000 miles from the east coast, I am not doing anything
I'm not going to Atlantic City Saturday night. We always have a few days worth of food and water in the house.
surf87 - Where are you located? We're just about 30 miles north of Virginia Beach. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

Los Angeles here now. I used to live in Hawaii where we used to get hurricanes all the time. I remember one time about 1984 a huge hurricane came close to Honolulu, Hawaii where I lived at the time, then reversed its course back into the ocean sparing the island of Oahu but then continued its course and ripped through the island of Kauai. It tore roofs off of houses and demolished everything in its tracks. Some people who were in the center of the eye of the storm said it was unbelievably calm in the center then abruptly experienced the other half of the storm's wrath. Those hurricanes are nasty. I hope all goes well for you East Coasters.

Surf87, that was Hurricane Iniki on 9-11-92. We were on the island and still here.

From that day forward, we prepare for the worse. There are many little things to do but off hand and besides food and water, fill-up your car, fill up your bath tub with water and have flashlights/candles. The most important lesson I learned was on the house insurance policy, insure the house and contents for its replacement costs.

Don Diego intends to batten down a hatch.

They are expecting the storm to hit us Sat. afternoon. Most likely it will be earlier. We are about as prepared as we can be right now without closing down.
I hope the East coast isn't left with too many fatalities. (the West coast may not think this is a big deal, but we do..lol)

edited to say that we are officially closed until after the storm. They are evacuating the whole area.
Our restaurant and houses are being boarded and hopefully we will not get much damage. The area of De. I am in rarely gets hit when hurricanes come through. It's just the way it sits on the coastline. Luckily for us.

I'm going to Dover Downs for the weekend with a few of the customers. I kind of knew this would happen so I reserved a room last week. I'll share it with a friend. We are going to party hard...
i am planning to spend my sunday morning furiously checking facebook to find out if the show i am going to is cancelled, and if its not, i am walking to manhattan to see one of my favorite bands ever play in a venue that only holds 175 people.

It's tracking right over me in Massachusetts for Sunday.

I'm hoping the winds at that point will downgrade to the tropical storm variety, but I'm still bringing in and/or securing the outside things.

Then I'll slow cook an Italian Sauce and Meatballs to serve over Spaghetti,
drizzle some homemade Vinaigrette over a nice Antipasto,
cut up some warm Italian Bread, ..... pour a glass of Wine, .................. and sit back and watch the storm.
