From LVA - Today's News:
August 26, 2011 Hurricane Closes A.C. Casinos: For the third time only in its 33-year lifespan, New Jersey's gambling resort will go dark this weekend, thanks to the threat of Hurricane Irene. Atlantic City's 11 casinos have been instructed to close by noon Saturday, but have all announced plans to shut down by 8 p.m. Friday following a county directive that the resort city evacuate. Hotel guests with nowhere to go will be permitted to stay, said a spokesman for the Golden Nugget, which hopes to keep its hotel and restaurants operating, but all others are required to leave.

What a joke all of this idiotic hurricane coverage is. Every network props up some dumbass on a beach near New York, and then it goes something like this...

News Desk: "So Jack, is it getting worse yet?"
Jack: "Yep, it sure is! We've got light rain coming in from some feeder bands, and it's all downhill after that. Ignore the people sunbathing behind me."
Desk: "So what's the worst case scenario?"
Jack: "20 foot walls of water will be surging down Broadway. Run, run for your lives while you still can!!! Back to you."

First the "earthquake" and now this. The east coast is turning into a bunch of pussies!
I'm getting myself a good mystery book to read with the rain and wind whipping aroung outside to add atmosphere. Why would anyone want to be holed up in a casino during a natural disaster? Anyone who's anywhere near Atlantic City this weekend deserves what they get....

I remember all too well when hotels were destroyed in our area. Visitors evacuated to shelters. All flights to our island were cancelled and they could not get out until a few days later. The hurricane hit without much warning. In this case, there are ample warning expecially to the residents. Do not take it lightly.

If the area has overhead power lines and in the path of the hurricane, there is a good chance it may be turned off for safety reasons. It may not come back up if the lines are destroyed. Follow the checklist for hurricane preparedness. My prayers are with them and hope for the best.

I said LOCAL!

Sold out?!?? .. or water logged??

Local to folks in the big city can mean anything as if it can be reached by cab, it's local.

To us folks that have lived in the country, local means can you walk there and return in a day.
Well Irene has come and gone here in NYC first time ever all trains subways and buses are shut down rain just poured down from about 8 last night till about 10 am Sun. Downtown NY financial area got some flooding. But we all survived New Jersey was hammered worse than us. I WOULD RATHER BE IN VEGAS
I live about 3 miles East of Center City Philadelphia. Irene has come and gone. I had a little water come through my kitchen window. I have pointing there that for some reason is eroding. Thank goodness my basement didn't flood. This was the wettest August around here in years. I hope everyone else on LVA in it's path weathered the storm.
Well while are you are enjoying your nice cool rain, here I am burning in hell here in Dallas, Texas.

Temperature here today was 107.
It was pretty weak here(VA),the power went out for about 2 min. and never even lost satellite reception. Woke up to a few leaves strewn about, but that was it.

Nesalk nailed it about the news coverage, all the local DC stations stayed on constant throughtout and sooooooooo overdramatized the entire thing. Dc had some trees fall over, but hell, they always have trees fall over in any bad storm. Had reporters at the beaches as well. It was pretty ridiculous overall, they had built this thing up like it was gonna be as devastating as andrew or something. Turns out a lot of rain and a little windy.
When a tree would fall, they'd send a reporter over there and spend 10 min about how and why this tree fell, that happened all night.

It seems that Virginia got the worst of it:
