Hypothetical question on guns.

Candy, do you have young children in the home? If not, it's simple to rectify the "not one would be at hand for our protection" problem. Put a night stand with a drawer next to your bed, and keep your loaded gun inside of the drawer.

I don't own a gun, as I don't feel in danger at any time. Others, however, are not so lucky and should arm themselves, learn gun safety and how to shoot accurately.

Suppose we make gun ownership mandatory so every household has at least one, and we allow anyone who is not a convicted felon or has documented mental issues to carry concealed weapons, and do away with gun free zones.
Does the number of deaths by gun go up or down,in your opinion , and why?

Deaths by whom? What is your point?

My belief is that guns draw more gunfire, hence more deaths, than they prevent.

My household contains several guns (over my objections). I'm pretty sure that in a 'situation' such as home invasion, not one would be at hand for our protection, while the invader would poised and ready for battle.

That place already exists, it's called Texas. See wiki link. Texas ranks 17th in gun deaths per 100,000. 36% own guns in Texas. But Wash. DC is #1 in gun deaths per 100,000 with only 3.6% gun ownership. But it's all over, rural place like Montana have large % ownership with very few deaths. Maryland is similar to DC very little ownership with high deaths. Sorry, I don't know how to make the link "active".
