I Forgot How Good Top Sirloin Can Be!

I think we all need to go visit Rick up in Mass., Is that the cheapest ever been up there? We just bought a couple lobster tails on sale for 4.99, they were actually a respectable size compared to what we usually get aroun here.
Tomorrow night is surf and turf night, crab cakes, the aforementioned tails, some shrimp, stone crab bisque and a 2" strip on the grill. I have some fresh zucchini and squash I'll throw in a pan with some OO and shallots to go on the side.

You need to watch out for cheap lobster. Many times it is rubbery and doesn't have the taste of fresh lobster.

In Calif., steaks start out at "select", with choice being the next cut higher. If you watch the Walmart ads where they switch Walmart beef for the normal steakhouse beef, they tell you they are using "choice" beef. The best cut after that is "Prime" which is the best! Usually most supermarkets don't carry Prime cuts except for the few high class supermarkets that cater to the rich!

Those are national, USDA standards. There are a variety of standards below the three that are used for "steak," cut and uncut, sometimes ground.

I'd be wary of a select-grade top, since it starts as an uber-lean cut and select is lean to begin with.

Lobsters are so cheap that I heard that some lobstermen are not going out catching them,
because it costs more for the fuel than they would make.

....... and by the way, the lobsters are deliciously sweet and tender !!!!!
This weekend I'll be making a meatless Italian red sauce,
and after it gets simmering I'll add 2-3 cooked lobsters broken apart but still in the shell.
Let everything slowly simmer for another 2 hours, and serve in the shell right over the spaghetti.

Mangia, Mangia !!!!!

Oh man!, that sounds pretty tasty. Tell ya what, I'll bring a coupla trays of farm fresh eggs and do breakfast, you're in charge of dinner. That gravy dish makes my skimpy little meal look pretty weak, altho it was pretty tasty and not a bit left. It was supposed to be for two but ended up being three.

John,
Those steaks and lobster tails look great, but Hey !!!! ......... that's not a well balanced meal.

Where's the green vegie and a potato ????? ...... any salad ???

BTW, My appologies to Bagiant for turning his thread from Turf to Surf

Rick
Well for the fourth week in a row Lobsters are $3.99 lb !!!!!

So this time I made my famous "Lobstah and Spahhh-gett".

I start with a homemade sauce, and then add in the cooked lobsters (broken apart).
It's a little messy but still a lot of fun to eat, ............. and very tasty.

Mangia, Mangia !!!!!
