I need help adding pictures

A few months ago I requested help in adding.pictures to my profile. I tried to add pictures and could not do it because it was to big. Well I finally got the picture to shrink to the correct size. Now, I can't get it to finalized. My profile will accept the picture, but the picture will not post. What am I missing or doing wrong? I see so many experienced users adding pictures, how bout giving me advise.

If your resized down to 120x120 pixels and 15kb size, you should be ok. If you have snag it, (a program that will allow you to copy a screen shot on your pc) grab somebodys image, resize it and try posting it for a sec.

fernie18--I just sent you a private message with suggestions on adding an avatar pic (you can read your messages by clicking near the top of LVA message board where it says "you have 1 new message".

For putting pictures in a thread, use photobucket.com its free...

If you want an avatar sized pic, put it in this thread and ill size it for you

i used tinypic It's quicker than photobucket.

OK—Because I can’t help myself, I am posting how I put photos onto LVA….
I hope anyone who learns something from this, uses it in an educational, PG-rated way!!!!
(This is just one way to do photos, I’m sure other posters use other methods)


One way to put your own photo into an LVA post:

1. You will need a photo that is SIZED correctly. However you view your photo on your computer, you need to change the RESOLUTION to 72 dpi (internet standard) and then change the DIMENSIONS to something viewable (I usually make my horizontal edge 5 or 6 inches). If you change to 72 dpi and don’t change the dimensions, when you post it on LVA it may be 47 inches wide or something just as silly. (fyi..I use Adobe Photoshop Elements for this)

2. Upload your photo to a free photo-sharing website (I use PhotoBucket so I will use that as my example)

3. After Uploading your photo, COPY the IMG CODE link (it will start like “[IMG]http:”). (In Photobucket, there are 4 different kinds of code links, so you want to copy the correct one)

4. In your LVA post, you simply PASTE your link into your post (Edit Paste or Control-V). Hit the PREVIEW button to see if you copied and pasted correctly.

It’s actually pretty simple…just time-consuming downloading a photo onto your computer, sizing it and then uploading it onto the photo site.

One way to put an internet photo onto an LVA post:

If you find a photo online that you want to use, then RIGHT-CLICK the image, SAVE IT into your DOWNLOADS. After image is downloaded (you may want to rename it), you can Upload it into your photo site just like #2 above and go from there. (some images are copyrighted and won’t let you save, just fyi)

One way to make a new photo as your avatar/icon image:

Same as above directions for a regular photo EXCEPT it must be VERY small (like under one-inch around…can’t remember exact dimensions necessary) and Direction #3 is different. INSTEAD of copying the IMG CODE link, you need to Copy the DIRECT LINK (it will start like “https://i3”).

Then click on PROFILE in the top-right corner of the LVA message board. Scroll down to EXTERNAL ICON and paste the link into the box there. (there are also generic avatar/icons you can use in the SELECT AUTHOR ICON YOU WISH… area). After you paste it, always hit the View or Preview button to make sure it worked correctly.

Good luck to any photo-pasting...I hope I haven't messed up the directions too much...being retired takes a toll on memory!
