I think I just hit a jackpot.

I'm supposed to take over my apartment the first Saturday in May, a very nice, large two bedroom second story in a great complex. Earlier this week, I got a call saying the people currently living there were not vacating and I was asked if I could wait another month or two. I wasn't happy and told them I had a signed lease and expected such a large complex to honor it. I didn't care about the exact apartment but I wanted one with the same floor plan. I was asked if a first floor apartment would be okay, and I was okay with that. Yesterday, they called and asked if I'd be okay in a different complex- one with two pools instead of three, and a much smaller dog park. I declined, even when they offered $800 off the full lease. I really picked the complex for the dog park and the pools. Today, they called and offered me a three bedroom/two and a half bath in the original complex. The thing is it goes for $250 a month more so they offered it to me for $100 a month. When I declined, they asked if I would take it as an even exchange. This I accepted. I'd been a bit concerned about moving from a three bedroom house with a basement and garage full of stuff into the two bedroom. Now I have an extra room to play with for $250 less than if I had signed up for it when I signed my lease., and I will spend less time culling my collections.
Nice score!
Indeed!
What happens when the lease expires? Will you default to the original (higher) prices or move out at your cost? I am not trying to be a Donny Downer but this seems like a temporary solution to a permanent problem.

That is a very good question, one I did not think of. However, my plans are to buy a condo out there. I didn't find what I was looking for, and also am a bit uncertain of my finances so I decided to rent for a bit. I have a 15 month lease and if I don't buy a place in Vegas, I imagine I'll be moving out of the area anyway. Also, after that much time, I'll have sold off enough of my stuff that I could rent out the third bedroom if I wanted. In about nine months, my fairly complicated finances should be clear and I'll know what I can afford much better.
Good luck to you! At least you are not cornered into a bad situation. That is enough time to find something if you decide you like it or to move on.
I'm renting in Henderson but if I stay in Vegas, I think it will be across town around Mountains Edge. If not Vegas, I'll buy a place in Laughlin and travel during the summer.
Good for you holding out...between what you needed and the original agreement. You sure did score a nice win. Hope it all works out in the long run.
Mountains Edge seems kind of far out.
After living in Henderson with so many conveniences within 2-3 miles,
moving there might be a big adjustment.

That's what I have 15 months to figure out. I like Anthem and Seven Hills but they are pricey. My thinking is Mountains Edge will be almost mature in a couple of years.
