I was sad to say that long before this came to light.

Out of curiosity, why do either of you live in a state you don't like?
I am highly amused. A bunch of conservatives bashing the Illinois state government not having bothered to read the article they were commenting on. The problem with the lottery started when they privatized it. The fact that the private company the state selected to run the lottery skimmed money from the players doesn’t surprise me it all. People never learn. You can’t add an additional profit taker to a simple enterprise like a lottery and expect it to create billions of dollars in new revenue. It just doesn’t happen.

Now the poor chumps living in Illinois are stuck with a criminal enterprise running the state lottery for the foreseeable future because the state won’t be able to afford to shut the lottery down and go through a long divorce process with the contractor. The perps are laughing their asses off at the simple-minded rubes they fooled with their privatization voodoo. (Yes, I know it was a Democrat the privatized the lottery in the state)
I'm happy to say that I used to live in Illinois. My brother will soon happily be saying the same.

My brother and sister-in-law are moving from Illinois for two reasons. They're looking for better weather, and they're looking to get away from Illinois financial mess. He's been retired, thus has the flexibility to leave.

He confirmed when I asked recently, that they would not be leaving Illinois had the state not been such a mess. They are NC bound, whenever they can sell their house. As you might imagine, it's hard to sell an Illinois home.

In other states it is called casinos, which do pretty well. Based on Illinois history, an investigation may show some corruption in the selection process.

Between getting flooded out of my house, having the brother of the friend that I moved in stealing a bunch of my stuff that didn't get ruined in the flood for crack, and having a stroke...... here I am. Believe me, I'm getting back to Missouri as soon as I can.

My guess would be that whatever politicians who were responsible for picking Northstar have received quite the windfall for merely selecting them as the "the absolute best company for the state of Il. and its' citizens.." {cough, ack, snicker, gasp}. My guess is they may still be profiting from northstar to this day.
International Game Technology and Scientific Games are the companies which operate the Illinois State Lottery.

These same companies, usually individually, also operate many of the other State Lotteries, as well as lotteries around the world. The other State Lotteries apparently do not exhibit this particular problem.

The reader may draw his own conclusion from this observation.
