Illinois lottery scratchers ended before grand prizes were awarded

Out of curiosity, why do either of you live in a state you don't like?

Good question.....Family is far more important than politics and I stay in Illinois because my family is here. I thought of moving to Indiana, but decided against it. My property taxes in Illinois were $7000 last year and a similar home 15 miles away in Indiana would have been less than $2000 and State Income Tax in Indiana is ~.5% less as well. One has to wonder how they can do this in Indiana? I suspect, there is far less government corruption!

Chicago is another problem with 700+ murders this year. The reality is 90% of the shootings in Chicago occur in 10% of the neighborhoods and that will never change until tactics are employed that were successful elsewhere (i.e. New York - stop and frisk and enforcing gun laws already in place).

There is hope though with a Republican Governor who will not let the Democrats continue to tax and spend. In addition, retirement income is not taxed in Illinois and housing values are far more affordable in North East Illinois compared to North West Indiana. Plus the weather is fantastic.........in June.

Jphelan, you've confused me. As one who grew in the Chicago NW suburbs and visits regularly, and as one who spent 24 years living in Indiana, I'm surprised to hear you say that housing is cheaper in NE Illinois vs NW Indiana.

When you say NE Illinois, are you talking the Kankakee area, Gurnee, or somewhere between? Houses are very cheap in Gary, IN, but it's not a favorable place to live...............for very long, anyway.

State income taxes have doubled for me since moving from Indianapolis to western Wisconsin. Actually, I think that my income taxes increased from 3.1% to 6.3%. That stings. Sales taxes are lower in Wisconsin, while property taxes are about equal.

By North Eastern Illinois, I am referring to border communities like South Holldand, Steven, Crete, and Adolfo. Versus North wester Indiana border communities like Highland, Shererville, Munster, etc. more bang for the buck in Illinois. It the taxes will catch up with you.
Jphelan, now I understand. Thx.

I think I've found an anomaly with the new $30 California Lottery Scratch Off game.

https://www.calottery.com/Play/Scratchers-games/$30-Scratchers/california-gold-1250

It looks like about 10% of the lower dollar prizes have been paid out, but virtually none of the prizes $1000 and up. I suspect they have set the bulk of those prizes to be distributed with the final X% of tickets....at a time when they can just call the game over and never have to pay on those.

Especially striking is the difference between $500 tickets and $1000 tickets. NO 1000 WINS HAVE BEEN CLAIMED....BUT 3265 $500 TICKETS HAVE. If the winners were randomly distributed, we'd expect around 1500 $1000 winners by now but there are none. This is probably statistically impossible with a random distribution of winners. I imagine this fits in the legal but sneaky category. And you thought 6/5 blackjack was a ripoff.

There is another possibility. Perhaps the over $1000 winner reporting takes longer because additional tax/payment procedural requirements. Yeah. That's the ticket.

Suspicious ?

Suspicious ! ! !

C'mon. California Government needs the money more than citizens who can afford to buy a $30 Lottery Ticket. It's for the good of the people !
