I'm off to Southpoint

5am flight up to Seattle then back down to LV. Get there by 9:40am and expect to be sitting at a VP machine nice and toasty before my Ducks come on at noon. I'll wave at Musburger once or twice in his little booth.

Daughter's 21st is on Saturday, we'll walk the strip all day....but I've got a couple tickets for the Pac-12 championship game that night as well. Sending daughter and her boyfriend to "O" on Sunday, after a nice dinner. Have 2 comped rooms for 4 nights at SP. Hoping to get a comped meal for 4 at the steakhouse for Sunday, which shouldn't be a problem.

Didn't Musburger just recently retire, or are you talking about someone else?

Brent Musburger is in his late 70s. He jumped the shark years ago with a lot of head scratching, inexplicable comments that caused him to "retire."

He retired from broadcasting to move down to Vegas and start a sports information (betting) media network. Which is based at Southpoint. VISN

When I was at South Point in January, they had a coupon book that was good for a free beer ( I believe limited to Budweiser or Bud Light). They poured it on draft. My friend doesn't drink so I took his coupon. They also had a coupon for a shot (although I think it may have been an ounce) of Crown Royale. if that didn't float your boat, they had Captain Morgan Rum, or vodka or gin. Still a good coupon. I was surprised that they had no match play tickets in the booklet. Match plays are the best. Remember valet is still free (other than a tip) and they park your car underground.

I have been to Primarily Prime Rib a few times. Good food. While it isn't Lawry's, it isn't nearly as expensive as Lawrys. The coffee shop was good. I had two forms of breakfast burritos. They offer Chinese food after a certain time, and it looked damn good.

Of course the oyster bar was as good as ever.

As a broadcaster he made a lot of point spread references during games he was covering. Was always entertaining when Fezzik's Place posters speculated on which side he had bet.

I really like the South Point! I've stayed there three times and hit royal flushes playing 25 cent VP 2 out of 3 of those stays!

In the last three years or so I have gotten royals more often than I should have, statistically speaking. Which makes me nervous for the upcoming trip.
