The Impossible Question

Which is why my first answer for my spouse avoided the question of today and I went with overall trip results and my second answer was how I log my daily results for myself where I do date the entries and I know how I want to see the dates.

Both answers take into account the perceptions of the questioner, but one includes the expected reaction, the other is irrespective of response. The question was set up so that you weren't supposed to alter your answer based on response only perception.

It's a fine distinction, but there is a subtle difference. I think! I've confused even myself at this point.
If everyone was OK with this little thought experiment, I'd like to do one once a month just to break up the monotony and give people something a little different to discuss.

Any objections? Was this fun?
I think questions regarding different scenarios are fine. But you were looking for a specific answer. Then we find out it was a trick question.
The question didn't pertain to myself and I'm sure many others for reason being I don't go to Vegas with anyone I have to answer to.
How about more general casino/gambling habit questions?

Frank,

As I'm thinking further about this, I do think that it would be better with the "How are you doing" aspect of the question to answer the question in the "for this entire trip" frame of mind and not specifically for "Today."

Answering for how a person is doing "today" only (and not in a more entire scheme of things status) can end up being a very incomplete answer.

I think that unless a person is just playing day after day after day (in more of a working situation -- like that you are in the casino playing every single day), then asking how are you doing "today" could provide a very incomplete answer.

I'm also aware that Bob Dancer has basically said that in the scheme of things that "today's score does not matter." I think that this is because his view may be more on the line of that our "session" runs from when we first start playing in our lives until when we end.

For non-professional players, I'd say that people questioning are more wanting to know how the trip overall stands as opposed to specifically "today." That is just a very short snapshot of how things actually are!

OK I hear and I agree. If anyone out there has an interesting idea for a question which will stimulate intelligent discussion send it to me at my private email [email protected]. Then I'll post it at the beginning of the month.

And let's put "fun" at the forefront. You all seem to have enough conflict as it stands, I do not wish to add fuel to the fire. Posting on this site is supposed to be recreation for me. Call me a lightweight or a delicate flower, but I just don't like conflict even if it's not directed at me.
Monthly thought provoking questions? Awesomeness.

How much I've had to drink today? Well, that all depends on how you define today.

That also applies to the word drink? Correct? To drink requires a glass, without a glass is it still drinking?
