If, indeed the wager was placed and hand dealt prior to 8:00 PM, &/or IF the casino accepted the wager, than they should certainly have the obligation to pay the winners.
The players at the table certainly did not handle the situation well, and were apparently unaware of their possible recourse or appeal. They should have insisted on having the casino shift boss come over, insisted on a review of the security footage, and insisted that the appropriate gaming authorities be immediately contacted. And most important, they should not have released their cards, or "allowed" them to be taken.
I suspect there may be more to this than what we've been told. Perhaps something as silly as "official time" vs someone's (pit bosses) wrist watch.
