interesting video on new skill based slots

The law requires them to display the payback percent. Pretty neat.
I noticed that the frogger machine or was it the other one shows a range from 75 percent pay back on up. Didn't it used to be a min aprox. 85 percent for Nevada slots?
All in all if you don't have the skill to play frogger etc then I would say you are a sucker to go in at an allowed 75 percent payback.
Also some of the machines will be marked all skill and some as luck+skill I assume.
In my ACG newsletter they mentioned their video there so I watched it then but thanks for this thread. I hope many people join in on this conversation!
They could make the machine a mix of skill and luck based games. Just make a button to where you could play it a total luck based game or you could choose the skill based game. On the skill based game, set it up to where the farther you move up in the game, the more you win. Make it a progressive. So much of each play builds up all the pots. If you only go up a few levels, the upper level pots go up. If you make it to the top, you get the whole of the pot. Let's say you hit the top jackpot on the game. Here's how I would make the next round work.

BEFORE JACKPOT HITS............AFTER JACKPOT HITS

LEVEL 1 $35.....................LEVEL 1 $20
LEVEL 2 $50.....................LEVEL 2 $35
LEVEL 3 $75.....................LEVEL 3 $50
LEVEL 4 $110...................LEVEL 4 $75
LEVEL 5 $160...................LEVEL 5 $110
LEVEL 6 $210...................LEVEL 6 $160
LEVEL 7 $290...................LEVEL 7 $210
LEVEL 8 $400...................LEVEL 8 $290
LEVEL 9 $550...................LEVEL 9 $400
LEVEL 10 $800..................LEVEL 10 $550

If you hit Level 4, you move each of the pots one step and start the first Level at the base. If I can figure out how to do it, why can't these guys. That's why they get paid all that money, right?????

You'll get cretins hanging around machines claiming prowess in a game and trying to hit you up for piece of your action.

When the "Ripley's Beleive It Or Not" machines were around, I used to help people answer the questions. I hepled this lady win a thousand dollars on night. She offered me money but I refused it.

Those games are still around.
Very cool article/video. If they make a centipede slot, I'm sunk. I think last time we were at the pinball HOF I played centipede for a couple hours, definitely my all time favorite. I never did very well at frogger whatsoever, space invaders for that matter as well.
I sucked at Centipede. It was my least favorite slot. Galaxia was my favorite.
I'll be looking for the skill based pinball machines next month. Vegas 2047 is it's name.

But $100 to play?

That's the BEST bet as far as house edge.

They've had "skill based pinball" since the late 1950's. I remember playing what they called "Bingo Machines" in the bar next to where my dad worked when I was about 5 years old. What you did was put a nickle into the machine and the game would start. What you had to do was get the balls in one of the 25 holes on the game board that would light up numbers that would be on the back glass in the shape of a bingo card. The more numbers in a line you got, the more games you won. To get a good game started, it would take anywhere from a quarter to fifty cents. If you were lucky (or good in my case), you could win $10-$15 in a single game. Here is a video of a couple of the machines that a guy had restored and brought to a trade show a couple years ago.

Game Play

To see the inside of the machine, which was way ahead of its time in my opinion, here's one being restored. Just look at all the gears and wires it takes to make this machine to work correctly.

Inside the machine

They did have these machines in Vegas in the early 80's when I first started going out there. I found one of these things at the Showboat Casino in the bowling alley and I thought I would show off my mastery of the game. The only thing I didn't notice was the giant nickle dispenser at the bottom of the machine for the thing to pay out winners. The first time I wanted to give the game a big shake with both hands, I thought I dislocated my shoulders because the damn thing didn't move an inch because of the weight. Back home, all the clerk had to do was turn the game off, then back on again to run the games off you wanted to cash in.

I almost bought one of these games about 30 years ago. The guy sold it the day before I got paid (jerk).
