Interview with Dr. William G. McCown

I have completed my interview with Dr. William G. McCown, the dean of the university of Louisiana at Munroe and author of several books on problem gambling. The focus was on problem prevention, rather than late stage treatment for those that already have problems. It should be very interesting to anyone that plays now, or that is considering playing in the future.

It will first appear in the Blackjack Insider Newsletter as my February article, and then I will repost it here for free for those of you that don't get the BJI.

Sincerely...
The delay between BJI publication and posting it here will be one month.
Hey thanks for sharing with us. Hope he shared some helpful insight.

Yes I think you'll find it very interesting. Sorry you'll have to wait the month if you don't get the BJI.

I was really astounded to learn in the interview how much things have improved over ten years ago.

I wonder if you touched on the casinos responsibility in gambling addiction. They operate to encourage problem gambling. They entice players with comps, free booze and the more you gamble, the better the benefits and comps. The casinos encourage the addiction. They know what they're doing. That gamble with your head, not over it saying is nice but the casinos have ATM and credit card cash advance machines very conveniently located for you. I'm lucky that I've never had much luck in gambling. Those brain chemicals just don't kick in for me when I gamble.

I promised not to publish what's in the BJI article until next month. I can certainly talk about what's not in the article. I'm sorry to say that this question was not covered. I really like this comment and you can bet I'll hit that topic on my new radio show. Thanks for your input.
Correction: That should have read University of Louisiana at "Monroe"

Munroe is my neighbor's cat. He does not have a university, though he has taught me not to pet him.
