Michael Eric Dyson Calls for Whites to Have an I.R.A. – ‘Individual Reparations Account’

"Professor Michael Eric Dyson thinks that white people should have an ‘Individual Reparations Account’ to make donations to black institutions and individuals.The proposal is part of his forthcoming book, “Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America.”

Dyson, a professor at Georgetown University, made the argument in an interview with Ana Marie Cox in the January 8 edition of the New York Times Magazine..."

Funny thing is I'm guessing the black people who wouldn't accept anything because they see the absurdity of such a thing and have already made there way in life and are good, responsible folks while the ones who would accept because they feel they are " OWED SOMETHING" are probably the ones already on the govt.'s teet in some form.

My grandparents came to this country after slavery was abolished. Do I still have to pay?

From Robert Davis , a Professor at Ohio State University :

Between 1530 and 1780 there were almost certainly 1 million and quite possibly as many as 1.25 million white, European Christians enslaved by the Muslims of the Barbary Coast.
Davis said his research into the treatment of these slaves suggests that, for most of them, their lives were every bit as difficult as that of slaves in America.
“As far as daily living conditions, the Mediterranean slaves certainly didn’t have it better,” he said.
While African slaves did grueling labor on sugar and cotton plantations in the Americas, European Christian slaves were often worked just as hard and as lethally – in quarries, in heavy construction, and above all rowing the corsair galleys themselves.
Davis said his findings suggest that this invisible slavery of European Christians deserves more attention from scholars.
“We have lost the sense of how large enslavement could loom for those who lived around the Mediterranean and the threat they were under,” he said. “Slaves were still slaves, whether they are black or white, and whether they suffered in America or North Africa.”

I'll admit it, my ancestors owned slaves.

Quite a few purchased commissions with the south in the Civil War too.

It is storied, but impossible to prove or disprove, that some family helped suppress the news of emancipation. (Do you know the Texas story of Juneteenth?)

A couple of branches of the family exited the Civil War quite wealthy. More than a little suspicious seeing as they were on the losing side.

So, knowing this, do you dislike me? Am I a bad person? Do I owe reparations to someone else?

Ancestors fought for the Pennsylvania 57th. My family demands cash ASAP. No confederate money unless it is in perfect condition so it's worth something on Pawn Stars.
