Is it just me or are you okay with $150+ per night room rates?

Did Laughlin two years ago for two nights during the winter. Had a friend who wanted to meet up with cousins. The crowd was overall a retirement crowd. Stayed at the Aquarius but ate dinner both nights at Golden Nugget Casino. The first night was at the Saltgrass Steak House and the second night at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. The steak house was decent but hardly gourmet and the seafood place was where 90% of everything on the menu was deep fried. Do not intend to go back.

I spend about ten days a year in Laughlin, broken into two, sometimes three trips. If you enjoy cars, you can spend hours at Don Laughlins two FREE car museums.
Just wandering around the Riverside Casino is like solving a maze. The cars change every few months so its always fresh. I try to hot the semi-ghost towmn of Oatman each year, and if you are a flatlander like I am, driving Route 66 from Kingman to Golden Shores is like a real life slot car drive. I've never seen more corkscrews and switchbacks on a road. I can only imagine how those migrants felt, driving that road in a 1930s truck with no power steering and everything they loved and owned in the back. I'd recommend taking one of the one hour cruises. Laughlin has a very interesting history and the cruise narrators tell it wonderfully.
While not a top Vegas eatery, The Hickory Pit at The Edgewater is a great steakhouse at about sixty percent of Vegas prices.

That all sounds pretty cool, makes it even more attractictive to me. My son and I love looking at car collections so that would be great, I didn't even know there was a collection there. Goes to show how I know about Laughlin. Thanks again BR!
The car museums at Riverside are pretty cool. And they always have some odd-ball collections like a chariot used in Ben Hur.

Riverside has a great happy hour, nightly at 5 p.m. where you can get 50% off on many drinks such as a martini for something like $3.75. What makes it neat is the view, all glass walls with view of Colorado River and activities. People start lining up around 4:30 to get in here when the doors open at 5 p.m. because it is beautiful and cost effective.

Regarding dining, I haven't tried the Hickory Pit so I can't vouch. Otherwise the best places to eat are The Range at Harrahs or maybe the same Gourmet Room. Both have good views, too. There is a sushi restaurant in the strip mall next to Tropicana Express that's pretty good, too.
The best buffets are at The Edgewater and Harrahs. I have heard many good things about the steakhouse at The Pioneer. I think its called Granny's, but I'm no longer welcome in the Pioneer so I've never eaten in it.I'm sure its not fancy, as The Pioneer is a throwback to the 1950s.
Riverside used to have a wet and wild tshirt contest in its Losers Lounge, but I cant say it still is there.

Grannys closed. I ate there on a Restaurant.com coupon once. It was B-minus material. Certainly better than, say, Outback, but not worth going out way for it when it was still in business.
Compared to the strip, Laughlin itself is a B- town. I thought about moving there as its a lot cheaper than Vegas but it's too small town for me.
The only time I've seen $150+ per night downtown is on New Year's Eve. I'm taking the low end places.

I'd check directly on the casinos webpage.

And the best bargain in downtown is the cabana rooms at el Cortez's. That's my Friday/Saturday night go to when everything else is too expensive. I don't think I've ever paid more the $100 and that's including resort fee and taxes.

I would like to hear more about this.

I had the audacity to win.
I took them for $300 one day playing blackjack. Was back the next day and was up about $40. I was drawing a lot of heat, so I was simply flat betting. I had one of those hands where you split a few times, double down on some and ended up winning about five times my initial bet. They brought in a new dealer and proceeded to change cards. I got up to use the bathroom and when I returned, I was told that I could no longer play blackjack. It wasn't unexpected so I went and played a ten cent Triple Diamond Machine. Played about an hour before losing $20.
Came back the next day and since the same staff was working, decided to play three card poker. I was up a little when I hit trip 7s. I had bought in for $100 and went to the cashier with four black chips. Cashier took them and got on the phone. The suit that had told me not to play BJ came over and asked me if I didn't get the message yesterday. He told me I was banned from the property, including the hotel and would be arrested if I returned. I took my money and never looked back.
